After sitting on my shop shelf of over 5 years, I think it is FAR past time to install the Mag Hytec diff covers I bought. 

 

I went out to the garage shop and checked.......only 3 quarts of Amsoil 75W-90 left.  I had some Walmart Supertech 75W-90 and 75W-140 but only 2 or 3 bottles of each.  Called my local petroleum dealer and asked them if they had any and they told me they have Conoco Phillips 75W-90 and 80W-140 synthetic.

I am leaning towards the 80W-140.  I can get both the 75W-90 or the 80W-140 for about $114 plus tax in the 5 gallon pail. 

 

Any comments, suggestions, and recommendations welcome. 

I would opt for 80w-90 lubes. Like poor JL_Welding found out the 80w-140 was so thick it wouldn't get out to the bearings fast enough. Even with the differential tipped with a floor jack it took over 30 minutes to even get lube to the end of the axle bearings.

I got 75-90 in front and 75-110 in rear amsoil 4 years and about 20k now looks new still. I got mag tech in rear and been running 8qts. P. s. Make sure your vent's are clear.

I got over to the petroleum distributor today.  I got 2 5 gallon pails of the Conoco/Phillips 75W-90 synthetic.

It costs about $120 per pail after taxes and all.  I also decided to go with Conoco/Phillips 50 wt. synthetic transmission oil for the NV5600.

It is getting to be very difficult to find Pennzoil Syncromesh in the 5 gallon pail and not get taken to the cleaners anymore.  I spoke to a rebuild shop in Memphis who recommends Mobil Delvac 50 wt. synthetic, the Conoco/Phillips cross referenced over to the same oil and cost about $175 per 5 gallon pail.  I am going to try the 50 wt. synthetic straight and see how it performs.  If it has poor cold weather characteristics, I still have about 2 or 3 gallons of Pennzoil Syncromesh and will mix it with the 50 wt.  to thin it some.  I think for my area the 50 wt. should do fine and actually perform better in hot weather.

It rained yesterday and today so I have not been able to do the oil change out and cover installs yet.  I will post my results and impression with the 50 weight synthetic in the NV5600.  I read a few posts over on TDR and see where a few folks used Mobil Delvac Synthetic Transmission Fluid 50 Wt. and mixed with 50/50 with an MS 9224 rated oil and had good results.  I will try it straight and see how it does and if I have shifting issues dilute it down with Pennzoil Syncromesh.

I'd like to know how it works out in nv5600 I had mopar fluid at first then decided to change and didn't want to get bent over at dealer so I got pensoil sincromesh ran that for about 3k and then ended up putting 7qts of 5w30 amsoil manual sincromesh tranny fluid in, and that's what I have in it now about 20k now. All I know is nv5600 fluid is thin and has to be sincromesh, that's what I've been told. Make sure to run at least 6qts or there is a bearing up high that will burn out. Also it has a vent make sure its not plugged.

I just did mine with Amsoil LongLife 75w-90. 4 qts in front with stock cover and 4 qts in the rear with the Mag Hytec and brought it to halfway up the dipstick. I will be double checking it in a day or 2. I had 75w-110 in the front previously.

I'm running 8qts in my rear with mag cover for about 20k now, mine is just above full mark. But mine might be bigger says d80 but I think it's 80 for carrier and 70 for wheel bearings. If yours is d70 might take less fluid.

Mine is a 70. It's held 4 qts for about 11 yrs now ;-)
