Hey Everyone, I noticed reciently that my lift pump is not coming on before I start my truck. I turn the key to the on position and no pressure from the lift pump. When I do start the truck my fuel pressure is 13-15psi drops to about 9-11psi wot. I know it isnt normal for it to do this, could it be a loose connection or you think it is the lift pump? Its a stock lift pump from Cummins Dealer I put it on about 6months ago. Thanks Corey

Normal... You'll find you'll change stock lift pump about 1-2 a year some times... Sorry to say Carter pumps are not quality products... I hate to say it but the only proven pumps out there that stood the test time is FASS and AirDog.

i would have to agree with moparman the carter pumps are not a good pump see a lot of vp44 pumps turned to scrap over them and there lack of pumping ability there are a lot of pumps out there on the market , but it seems that the airdog or fass are the one,s to withstand the job over time

Okay I was just curious cause my origional lift pump lasted 9yrs and 150,000+miles. This one lasted 6months. What would you recomend I put on? I have no mods, the truck is 100%stock.

i believe that the fass ddrp is better than carter but still as a low GPH. if i was going to spend that much...i would(and did) spring for the full system. the 95-100series in both flavors will suit the needs of the vast majority. the only reason i went for the 150 series is because they were the exact same price.

being a dealer for both fass and the airdog ,i would go with the airdog they are a little less money over the fass ,both are good pumps ,airdog you can get the 150 for the same price as the 100 right now so its a good deal

Also the AirDog is adjustable, I was checking out the one for running BioDiesel.

I know that the 100 and 150 AirDogs are both adjustable to but requires a different means of adjustment. Basically just remove the return line fitting and shim the spring or replace the spring with strong spring and pressure increases... 1 single washer in my 150 pump and I'm holding 17.5 at idle anf 15 at WOT.

I can . I'm almost at 85,000 miles with one of my 392's. Not bad for $100.00. I know many guys who haul RV's for a living (or at least use to until the economy fell on it's face) and have put over 100,000 miles on their 392's. Let's not forget about the mechanical pumps (Fuel Boss and MITUSA) both have proven to be very reliable.

Mine never comes on until I bump the starter, don't they all do this? I don't see anything wrong with your fuel pressures. The fact that you have fuel pressure indicates your LP is working. I agree with everybody that an aftermarket pump is a good investment though.

I've been running the airtex on my 02' 1ton company truck with 13psi @ wot. I got some fittings and 1/2" line, then mounted and ran everything. For just over 200 bucks it's not bad. I still like the AirDog 150 on my 02' 3/4 ton better though since everything is built together on that unit.

:ahhh:i just wrote a reply here and i lost it all:banghead::banghead::mad:and it isnt :lmao:if you decide to get a airdog or a fass you will be able to notice a big difference...and most of all..your vp44 will like the fuel delivery.see the factory lift pump has to lift the fuel out of the tank..where as if you go with an aftermarket pusher pump..it will be mounted as close to the fuel tank as possible so that the fuel can be pushed to the fuel filter housing or directly to vp44.also some folks includinf technicians i have visited with dont realize that when we do a pusher pump set up,not only do we see better fuel p.s.i....the computer on top of the vp44....is cooled by the fuel that is run thru it.factory stainless fuel line from fuel filter housing is less than quarter in diameter...very restrictive...where as the hose that comes with the pusher pump of your choice(airdog or fass is who i recommend) will have 3/8 or 1/2 inch hose...more psi and more volume equals happier vp and its computer mounted on top.when it is hot outside and a person is really into the throttle and they have a stock lift pump and that person lets the throttle off all the way the vp gets hot extremely fast so all of that fuel psi and the volume for cooling the vp's computer is gone.they just cannot keep up like the pusher pumps can.the internal tolerances are not very big at all..so they need all of the fuel that it can possibly get.oh...and remember to put the truck on a 2 cycle diet.:thumbup2:your vp will like it and it will make your truck alot quiter....here is the easy mixing formula...1 oz. tcw-3 ashless 2 cycle oil to every 1 gallon of diesel.sorry so long of a reply...i want to return the useful information to help others that have helped me out.

Just side story... I got back from a fire meeting last night and we were discussing the last big fire they had in town and how they start initial attack with 1 1/2 fire lines and losing the battle when the big pumper showed for the show and start pumping 2 1/2 lines now the fire lost to the fire fighters. Moral of the story: Even a small increase in fuel line will be the difference between win or lose! 1/2 fuel line do the best... 3/8 Inch lines or OK for mild performance. 6mm stock well isn't good for much...

If I remember right this idea was brought to the dodge family by a Ford owner. (But here or there). But it was the fact that people where on the hunting for a better fuel system than the stock Carter and the cheap Holley blue's. So about this time Walbro's, FASS, and AirDog all came forward at the same time. The walbro fuel system at first was a home brew setup but several dealers created kits. (Correct me if I wrong. My history might be off)

there are alot of venders that sell all of those pumps.i think that the raptor is the cheapest in price if not mistaking. i almost bought one of those but at the last minute i changed my mind cause i have always had good luck with the fass products,and i think that i got my shippied to me for 450 dollars if i remember right.

You'll have to do some digging around for the Walbro setup... I know there use to be a few vendors selling them as kits and now I can't seem to find them. Also remember that AirDog and FASS both on the full systems have a lifetime warranty where walbro don't.
