Looking for options on the rear view camera to help with trailer hookup and general use, please share your thoughts.

Some options may include: navigation, Bluetooth, etc.

Looking at multiple options as I need a new stereo also, that has usb port for music and Bluetooth for phone.

1. single din flip up screen. Not too many choices for quality, mixed reviews, screeks break.

2. double din. More to chose from, even android auto for qwadzilla tuning, but lots of work on dash. will kill many birds with one stone.

3. rear view mirror replacement with another one that has a built-in monitor, and get a regular cd player that has usb and Bluetooth.

4. separate monitor and camera set up and get a regular cd player with usb and BT

There might be other ways,  if you have something already please share. and also if anyone is using regular cd player with usb and BT for phone, what model#etc and how you like it.

Thank you all.

  • I think I'd go with #4.  Separate system, if something go bad with the cd, mirror or another system that is integrated with it you would have to replace every thing. All so If you want to move the cam

I think I'd go with #4.  Separate system, if something go bad with the cd, mirror or another system that is integrated with it you would have to replace every thing. All so If you want to move the camera to another vehicle, you're not locked in, it would be easy.

I was just a Costco looking at a rear camera set up.  It was wireless  2.4 with a range of 30' (unobstructed) with several installation options all for the low price of 79.99.  I've been look for a wireless set up for the back of my 5er so That I can keep an eye on my boat when towing doubles.  I can't find anything I like yet.

I like this one    http://m.costco.com/1-Backup-Camera-System-with-7"-LCD-Screen-by-Rear-View-Safety.product.11526596.html   as it looks like quality buit, this will definitely be considered, thanks. the ones I looked at were cheap on Amazon and people having problems whith.

I put a flip up pioneer in my 12v that works great! It was a discontinued model that sold new for $500 but got it off eBay refurbished for $299

Just ordered this one   https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/c/ref=navm_hdr_cart

We'll see how it goes, now just thinking on camera place, on topper or under bumper. and screen place, I think down low by 4x4 shifter, and have it on tugle switch .

I like the idea of a toggle switch so you can turn it on when going down the road and not just in reverse.  Post some pic of the installation when your done please.  I would get the backup camera with the trailer tow kit for the 5er.

Why did you get it through Amazon and not Costco?

Sorry I thought I replied to your question, but apparently not. Costco said I had to be a member and it was an online order only, so I found it on Amazon with free shipping that took about a week, but overall so far I like it. it does have a sound too and you're able to plug in up to 3 cameras to this unit and able to tugle between them. comes with an adapter to hook up a dvd player, I might do that. the location I chose is ok and still visible from back seat. plus that little cubby hole for storage is useless to me. I did use rtv on the camera around seams and put some in speaker hole, don't think I'll hear much with truck running, and don't want any moisture making its way in.

Forgot to mention I went with option 4, I like it. can't belive I postponed cd player  with usb port for that long, but on bright side it's outdated and cheap now. and being able to see behind me now is awesome too.

I really like what you got going on here. I'd like to do something similar, except I don't need a screen as big as that. I really just want something big enough so I can know if/when I'm going to hit something, and to make hitching up easier.

My wife's 2014 GMC has the camera and it's great, but you can see behind that fairly easily even without the camera. The Dodge on the other hand?!
