I'm ready to pull my whiskers out. I have this rattle in my front end and a shimmy over longer stretches of uneven surfaces and I can't find the source to save my life. I have replaced all 4 BJs, both unit bearings, shocks, pads, rotors, axle u joints, tie rod ends, tires and sway bar links. I had been amassing the parts but being lazy so I just did it all because everything need some level of attn. I did it all myself, double/triple checked my work and the TQ on my bolts. Also my trac-bar is a 3rd gen with the bracket, and it's tight. I need a new direction to look in because my truck feels sloppier and sloppier.

By sloppy do you mean play in the whee? How is your steering box? Might need to tighten it up a little.

Seems more suspension related, sloppy as in the noise sounds like a wheel is going to fall off the front and it's shakey on frost heaves, roots under roads, etc. Steering box is a Redhead w/ 20K on it and I have a brace installed as well. Replaced my steering shaft at the same time. I checked that though and it all seems tight as a drum.

Control arm bushings?

Was the sound there before or after all the newly installed parts? 

 

What size tires are you running?

 

Mine seems to have a bit of a bounce over certain stretches of highway. Rather annoying but I think it's a combo of the road and my  offer tires.

They seemed ok but I am going to look again, don't know why I didn't double check them. There is the possibility my leveling kit finally took a toll on them... Thank you for the input/sanity check!

Yes noise was there prior but I could feel the spanked passenger side wheel bearing/and upper BJ and figured they were the root. That chattery knock from them has gone away since the install. I'm running 35" BFG ATs, I know 35s and solid axles is never going to give me a Caddy ride or stock ride quality but it seems/sounds like something is loose

Hmmm seems weird. Almost sounds like @Me78569's quest to find his mystery noise!

I have a mystery clunk in mine, had it for a little over a year now. It bugs but i dont have much time at home to dig into the whole front end. Getting due for BJ's myself, Figured I would dig in deeper then.

 The 35's you are running wont help with the steering. At best the steering lacks something to be desired when the truck was new on stock tires. Mine came with 265 75's on it and I never could understand why I did not get pulled over on suspicion of DUI.  I rebuilt my front end about 150k ago and tightened up the steering box a little and it has actually been pretty good since. Did wear out one track and had change it but the rest is the MOOG I installed on it.

 Since the noise was there before your rebuild and is still there, it would lead me to believe you need to look elsewhere. The sloppiness could easily be the tires, especially if they are old.

Sounds like wheel bearings maybe, do they Groul a little when changing lanes or getting off a ramp. Usually a wheel bearing will make a noise when steering one direction but not other.
