Too good to be true, the truck was running good, not overheating.  Last night, I saw a puddle, maybe an oil leak.   I checked and after running, it is leaking a mixture of oil and antifreeze by the  front case, above the oil pan.  It's lost a quart, it runs fine, but the killer dowel pin is a possibility. 2001 shouldn't have a killer dowel pin?

Has anyone heard of this, and is the likely source the water pump?  The engine runs, so the engine seems okay.   Thoughts?

And thanks for the help.

There has been at least one report of a 2002 Dodge Ram with a KDP failure. There used to be a picture of the dealer invoice showing the KDP report for a 2002 Dodge Ram under warranty. So any year is possible to have a KDP problem. Just rare above 2001.

Water pump leaks from the weep hole when the bearings go, it can be significant and will drip down the case. Any oil leaks before this?

there is one small freeze plug inside the gear case.  arrow points to it.  but i think the water pump is going if its not mixing coolant with oil

That was Dave Conrads (Fishin2deep4U) Dad.  Used to have a link to the post but don't know where that went now.
