I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 Cummins, long story short swapped out the engine, (it's not a good thing when you suck valves down into the cylinders) an engine from a 2001 Freightliner Step Van that I put in my Dodge and now I can't get the tach to work more than 30 seconds approximately. I have tried 3 different camshaft sensors. It runs but doesn't have the power it should.

Been working on this truck off and on for over a year.

Frustrated in Denver.

the 01 didn't have the crankshaft sensor , does however have the hole for it we tried that and nothing changed.

Do you have any codes. I just tried putting in a different ECM program to my truck VIN number and I'm having same issues Tech will only work for a while and then drops out. I have a 1698 code, no communication with pcm. But if I put my other ECM in it works fine again. I know this doesn't help you a lot but just my :2cents:

I know  Dodge does not have one. Thought maybe the freightliner might.

I've got to ask what was the OEM engine that you replaced?

If you did change years. You going to have to pull the cam from the old engine, the gear case and swap both.

Hi, I appreciate all the responses it was a 24 valve Cummins that came out of it and a 24 valve Cummins that went in it from the Freightliner both being 2001's. Using the computers from the Dodge and the only thing that didn't get changed was the injector fuel pump.
