What do you guys think...have Vulcan fuel pressure test gauge.  It goes zero to 30 psi.  I want to test my 5.4 gas fuel pump.  Looking for 20 thru 40 psi.  

Will gauge break if it goes or (max) 30 psi or will gauge just top out.  

And I assume vulcans test gauge doesn't care if diesel or gas?

It should be fine whether it's gas diesel or whatever, most of the time they are made out of coil brass tube, but it could go out of calibration or break depends on how much extra pressure

Thanks so much.  I didn't think about to much pressure messing up calibration.  I see a fill port plug but dont see screws to adjust.  I better get a cheapy from auto zone and not take chance.

Maybe someone else has a different opinion on this, but that's been my experience 

Over pressur on the gauge rating would be my only concern. How far that can go would be beyond me, but there has to be a tipping point.

What is the gauge going to be used on? If it's on a gas fuel injection system a gauge with 30 PSI max will top out as soon as you start the fuel pump.

Couple items... 

1st ...gauge to be used on 5.4 Ford gas engine.  I believe book says fuel psi 20 thru 40 is ok, as enough psi to push gas to injectors and gas pump is "ok".

 

2nd item.  (Dont laugh) being port is a schadier valve...going to break out bicycle pump that has cheap gauge and see what happens.  

 

I'll double check psi numbers.  I can't  see taking the chance with $65 dollar gauge.

    DO NOT use a bicycle pump gauge as you might find a leak rather quickly and unlike diesel gasoline is flammable at room temp. This can be real bad if you get my drift.    

  Funny thing is I have a good snap on gas fuel pres gauge set, old as me, and it works fine on my low supply side pressure of the 99 ISB. Guess we are just on the opposite side of the equation.

Ok... what about tire pressure gauge?

 

 

Does your tire pressure gauge have a good seal at the stem to prevent fuel spraying allover the place? 

Harbor freight has real low cost gauges just for gas, maybe not good for daily use but heck for the once a year stuff

Have harbor freight gauge in trash right now.  That's reason for finding another way.  And Only about year old.  It's more of a challenge  for me other than getting a new one.  Auto zone about same quality but more thin plastic connectors.  

Not knocking harbor freight.  Have 3/4 inch torque wrench and calibrate it when tire shop rotates tires.  Been right since I got it about 4 years ago.

Just tossed out the HF set as they are cheep, but in no way a "this gauge is going to last" . Some of their stuff is Ok most is crap, but in a pinch they are low cost. 

if ya wern't so far I would just come by with my gauges.  

Thanks for the offer.  I'll Jerry rig  something and test the device with air first.  Good thing I'm not getting paid by hour or job.  

Why dont we close this out now as not right section to talk about gas stuff.  

Just tried to get a quick question in wondering if diesel test gauge would work.
