My dad keeps bugging me to learn how to tune using HPTuners, but I hopped on there to get started and I'm just so overwhelmed by everything. Could someone lend me a hand and help me understand what I'm looking at and narrow down what I need to focus on to tune a truck? Recently I've been interested in doing it but with all the timing correction tabs and such I couldn't even begin to know where to look or narrow down what I need to focus on. I'll love you long time if you help me out lol. Thanks!

  • Are you wanting to use HP tuners on a VP truck?  Can't tune mechanical injectors beyond pop pressure, pintle lift, and orifice size...

  • I can already tell you what Mike’s tip for that S03 will be.... sell it and get a quadzilla!

Only if I knew what to look for in compound set up   Sounds tempting to say the least. But for now I've spent way more then anticipated in the last year.

I would suggest looking over in the Article section and reading about Quadzilla. At least Quadzilla with a handful of numbers you can create full tune.

I will probably do that. You can tune everything down to injector spray width.

No just CR trucks, I already have a Smarty for my 24v.

Smarty Touch UDC would be the tuner for CR engine.

We had a Smarty Jr then dad sold it for an HP to get custom tunes and he hates it from a professional tuner and he thinks I can do better.

Not smarty Jr... Smarty Touch UDC.

I'm not familiar with the UDC.

UDC = User Defined Catcher

In other words you program everything in Windows and save on the SD card then the Smarty Touch flashes the tune into the ECM. I know @AH64ID is a Smarty user, @4Play is another Smarty user.

That sounds pretty interesting! I'm pretty sure dad is done shopping around for programmers lol. I have a Smarty S03 I might need some tips for however.

Well I'd do it if I didn't just buy a non tampered 180 p7100 and half the swap kit for $400.

Trade?!!!!

If you're asking about the pump and kit, no. $450 cash. It was from the guy I bought my newer 99 motor from for my red truck. If you're talking about the programmer, I don't know anybody who wants to trade so I won't waste my time cause with my luck I'll trade for it and my pump will die, which is when I plan on doing the swap.

Yes. P pump for Quadzilla ?

Not happening ? I've wanted to do the swap from the moment I knew it was possible.

Damn. I can only hope to find swap parts that cheap. Only reason I have compounds is because I found the pipe kit for $400

Any excuse for compounds is a good excuse! All I need are lines, CPS adapter, throttle cable, and the oil feed adapter.

Ive never looked at HP’s software, but it can’t be too much different than UDC Pro or EFI, depending on the year.

Custom tuning isn’t something most people can jump right into and figure out.

What are the specs on his truck? How does he use it?

03 1 ton single wheel 6spd with pretty much just an Airdog on it. He is a farrier so he just drives it for mileage.
