Posted February 8, 20205 yr My 1999 ram 2500 has a hard start, no start condition I have to unplug the pcm and ground wires to battery with the key on to get it to start and sometimes it goes to wto at start u. Any help would be appreciated
February 8, 20205 yr Staff Does the starter motor crank the engine but the engine does not start? Which wires from the PCM are you grounding? Color and connector position at the PCM please.
February 8, 20205 yr Author It cranks but won't start. I'm unplugging the three buss bus connections from the pcm and then unplugging the grounds at the batteries on the passenger side. I do all of this with the key on and it will usually start

February 8, 20205 yr Author It stays running and runs fine. And I don't usually have problems with it for a few days

Next time it happens try starting it with just the right connector at the PCM disconnected. If it still doesn't start disconnect the left connector. The PCM grounds at the passenger side battery. The center connector is for the transmission sensor and solenoid control. Be sure all the connections, battery terminals, and grounds are clean and tight.
February 9, 20205 yr Author I'll try that. I have also heard about ac noise causing ecm problems and I was wondering if that might be my problem.

That's a good point and it should be addressed and corrected as soon as you can because it can led to other problems but I don't think it is causing this no start situation.
February 9, 20205 yr Author Are you thinking it might be in the pcm? I was also wondering if I can put a manual ecm in it I'm doing a manual swap
February 12, 20205 yr I have a similar problem, I already changed the crankshaft sensor, apps, overflow valve and I still have the problem that when I start it it is purring for a few seconds and it goes off alone, I already did the thing to disconnect the left connector of the pcm and it started me fine but I haven't gotten to the problem
February 13, 20205 yr Author So after a bunch of research I have found it to be a bad ecm caused by ac noise

February 13, 20205 yr Author I'm ordering a new ecm from flagship one in New York and I'll be doing the W-T mod
February 13, 20205 yr Flagship one has "new" ECM's? If so what do they cost? Edited February 13, 20205 yr by dripley
February 13, 20205 yr Staff Great... Let us know how it works out and how customer serviced is from Flafship One. Below is a list of ECM repair shops and how they rate here thanks to @pepsi71ocean
