ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)

Removal & Installation

1. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cables. ECM is located on left side of engine block

above engine oil pressure sensor and behind fuel filter. See Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 .

2. Loosen 5/32" (4 mm) Allen head bolt securing 50-pin connector at ECM. Carefully pull ECM connector outward while removing connector bolt. Remove 3 mounting bolts securing ECM to engine block and remove ECM.

3. Ensure back of ECM is clean for good ground connection to engine block. Do not paint back of ECM. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten ECM bolts to specification. See TORQUE

SPECIFICATIONS .

4. To calibrate ECM to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS), turn ignition on. Without starting engine, slowly press throttle pedal to floor and then slowly release. This procedure can only be performed one time. If this procedure is not performed, DTCs may set.

I missed the part that involves a side cutter...........

I am having dead pedal issues with my truck. I keep getting he same 4 codes p0113, p0121,p123,p0606. i tried a new apps and it did not fix the problem. I am thinking about replacing the ecm. Wondering if that would be a wise next step. One other note the battery terminals have started to corrode. both batteries are original from 2001 but seem to be holding their charge. I replaced the bolts and nuts on the three terminals that had the corrosion only to find one of them very corroded after a couple of days sitting parked. I am not sure if this is connected to the codes or not. any suggestions would be appreciated.thanks Mopar1973Man for your last response.I am also wondering if the codes are coming from $15 module is that the ecm or the pcm?thanks

The 606 code pretty much sums it up as it is an ECM internal failure/fault detected, time to get a new ECM. The other codes and symptoms tell me it is the ECM throwing fits. Whats the story behind the $15 module?

Yup 606 is bad.On my 01 had a group of bad grounds in front of the battery drivers side.The stud that is spot welded to the body rotted.It was a real drag to repair but it worked.The reason i am saying this is this computer controlled truck really needs to have good grounds.Just for fun peel the ecm out of the truck and put a wire wheel to the mounting holes.I went over almost all my grounds to make sure. I had ecm problems too.170k and mine died.

My code scanners shows the codes coming from the $15 module. I think that the other module is labeled $1. So I am wondering which one is the ECM and which is the PCM? Is it possible or probable that the batteries or terminals are connected to the problem? I have not had any problems starting the truck but I have noticed more corrosion.

i pulled the battery tray in looked at that ground yesterday. i thought to myself, that is the worst ground. has anyone ever moved or reworked that sob?

PCM is on the passenger side firewall... ECM is on the driver side of the engine block... Then yes the P0606 is a ECM fault code. Driver side ground takes care of the ECM ground...

I just put a battery groung on them all.I took all the insulation off and soldered them together.I did drill a hole for my new ground lead.

Yeah... I cut that POS end off, trimmed the wires back enough to get rid of the "green rot" and soldered all those in a copper terminal like used on batterie cables..then heat shrink'd the connection I also made a Jumper ground wire from 10gauge wire from frame to tha post in front of the battery.

I too was having problems with idle rpm's up & down at random...and stalling...between that and a TIMBO APPS sensor, Problem solved!!

I went to the dealer.This dealership i go to is not typical.There a down home country place.I trust them.

I did here some bad things about some replacement ecm stores.I diddnt want to take a chance.Plus i have been going to this dealer for more than 10 years for odds and ends.

Mine came blank and needed to be programmed.

I dont remember how much i paid.When i call them for a part i do compare the price with other places.I wish i could be more of a help to you.

Mine from dealer ran 1250.00 gave me a discount because I run a bussiness. Oh, how nice.
