First off I hope everyone had a merry Christmas! Mine was eventful blowing the head gasket on the truck, and then finding out the head had cracks in 5 of the 6 cyls of the head. Replaced head and now it runs great. No external leaks but it sucks air and looses prime within a few hours. being this weekend was Christmas/eve  I couldn’t get injector orings or connector tube orings. Could these be a source of the air leak? I changed the banjo washers on the back of the head with no results.IMG_1283.jpeg.019ddd7b38e8e69a372f9245e181c433.jpeg

You can run quite a bit of timing as long as the boost is near zero. No more than 5 PSI for above about 22 to 23 degrees.

  • One thing you can do in the interim is to park the truck on a fairly steep incline overnight (nose pointing downhill) and see how the engine starts in the morning.  Make sure the fuel tank is at least

That sucks. Might be time to upgrade away from the China made Cummins gasket produced by BLK, China. Felpro or other name gasket. I've had a Cummins head gasket delaminate.

I had a new FelPro 9522PT with new head studs and it failed within a 1k miles, but I think it was too much timing on the Quadzilla tune that I was running at the time.

I swapped over to a Cometic MLX head gasket # COMC5855-067. I didn't have any more issues after that.

Wow, what were your timing numbers?

Again another example I can run 26 to 27 degrees of cruise timing at 2,000 RPM but I'm always below 5 PSI of boost. This is why I monitor my engine oil temperature because to advanced engine oil temperature will rise up past coolant because the amount of flame on the cylinder walls. Also watch engine load numbers it will rise because of negative torque.

Another passing thought. For those who bought injectors popped lower that 310 bar will have issues finding proper timing. Clue is below 310 bar RETARD, above 310 bar ADVANCE.
