I was just wondering if it's important to worry about the KDP problem on 2002 models? I know they say that some have an updated case cover that fixes the problem & others don't have the fix.....Is the KDP problem very common on 02' models? I purchased mine new in May of 2002 & was just wondering if there is any way to know at all if it has an updated timing case cover?

As far as I know of the 2001 model year is rare to find a KDP problem... It extremely rare to find it on the 2002 models... I've only seen 1 report of 2002 with a broken gear case under warranty... They even had pics of the receipt showing its a 2002 Dodge and pics of the broken gear case... :stuned:

thanks for the info. i was just a little worried after looking into it.....it would be nice to know how many engines actually had a KDP problem out of all the 01's & 02's manufactured......kind of a crappy thing to happen to your engine.... i think i may have seen that one that you are talking about that had the problem on DTR forums..... I just got to thinking after I read a post where someone said they did the KDP fix on their 02 & they claimed that it had moved some & theirs didn't have the updated cover.....wish there was a way to know if an engine had the updated cover just by looking at the front of the engine.....seems like the odds are pretty good that the problem doesn't happen with the 02's though.....

For what it is worth my 01 has a step cover. No need for kdp fix.

That's good....was there a way you could tell from the outside that it was the updated cover or did you have to remove it to find out?

No... The case cover and gear case appears identical to a non-stepped... The only way to tell is to open the gase case...

Sounds like it wouldn't hurt to open and take a peak for a little wrench time and a gasket... maybe some Coors!
