I have a '01 Dodge Cummins 4x4 automatic -truck had to go into the shop...being told that the wiring harness has melted together and we need a complete new one to the tune of 1065.00 plus 450.00 labor. It was flashing an ECM code and surging while driving which was the main reason it was taken in. Has anyone else had this happen or know why it might happen, or has anyone had to replace their wiring harness before?

Wow! On first impression I would check all the fuses and see if the proper fuse sizes where in there sockets... A lot of times people use a bigger fuse to over come a electrical fault of some sort and eventually... POOF! But the only way I know this will occur is a short to ground... As for replacing a harness because of this... Personal I've never heard of it... As of the cost... sounds about right... :spend:

wow that really sucks man sorry to hear that!:banghead: i couldnt agree with Mopar anymore about the oversized fuses! :iagree:but i dont think i have ever read about a wire harness melting just a few ECM's that take a crap!

Which harness is it? If eng. harness it is no big deal to change out. Easier than you think. But if your luck like mine it's the main, right.

Why not find out where it melted and then separate and insulate the wires?
