Posted March 19, 201114 yr I may need to do this to get my exhaust back in with new downpipe (long story). Never done before... how hard and what's the process?
March 19, 201114 yr Owner [*]Disconnect the batteries. [*]Pull the belt off. [*]Disconnect the wires on the back of the alternator. [*]Remove the 2 bolts mounting alternator. Reverse process to install again. But remember to re-calibrate the APPS when your done...
March 19, 201114 yr Author [*]Pull the belt off. This bit Never taken the belt off before - believe it or not Whats to be done to loosen it and then tighten it ? Just a tensioner and lossen - and then slip off ?? And reverse for putting it on ? thx boss
March 19, 201114 yr There is a tensioner below the alternator. It has a 3/8" square hole in it for a 3/8" ratchet. You may need to use a cheater pipe. Looking down from the radiator.
March 19, 201114 yr The long thick wire (not going to the engine block, thats the ground) is the one you need to disconnect, it goes to the fuse box in the engine compartment on the drivers side fender. It will be the main fuse (120A). Then disconnect the 2 pcm wires and the ground. The easiest way to put the belt back on is to route it around everywhere it is supposed to go, leaving it under the alternator pulley, then pull the tensioner back and slip it over the alternator pulley (As in the exact opposite of how I took it off in the vid). Don't try and do it some other way as it is 10x easier than any other way. This should help.
