Bought DTT Assassin Mechanical Fuel Pump- No Install Instructions! Please Help!

Posted

Greetings-From Steffen at DTT ...I purchased the Assassin Mechanical Fuel Pump for my '98 24 Valve-I also purchased the Vulcan Double (Filter and H20 Separator)To install along with it. My idea of how to install the Pump etcis as vague as the instructions included with the pump. Which consists of a simple line diagram with little or no descriptions of where different fittings, filters, hoses go...there are not even instructions as to where to put the pump...where the individualbolst may go. Yes-given lengths of time and trial and error I could most likely figure it out, but I have had my truck off the road (A FUll MOTH) waiting for this pump. I already replaced my Injection Pump (which was fried) and now I want to keep that from happening once again with the Assassin.I have removed the old lift pump, and the stock fuel filter setup,I know I have to drop the fuel tank and install the daw straw-but where do I go from here. Do I use the hard fuel lines? How do I run them?Has anyone installed this on their rig? Someone who could direct me to some installation instructions that merit fallowingand provide a bit of guidance? Or maybe you have some picsof when you installed your own? Or know of a thread with step by step info? These would be so helpful- I am slammed- we need to move ASAP into our new home-freezing weather here in Deer Park, WA and it is going to take out our house water pipes if I cannot get moved in soon- (We just purchased a shop/house)- I am up to my neck in this project and have nothing with which to tow our trailers- Any help would be AWESOME! I need an experienced hand to show me the way-THANKSShawn

I've haven't even seen a Assassin Mechanical Fuel yet. I've seen pictures of them but never seen one assembled up close yet. Rather new on the market place and very little information on them.

Did you get new rubber fuel hose with your pump? If not, you need to. I have not personally installed one but know that it bolts to the bottom/front of the oil pan. There is at least one member here who has one, I believe he is TX CTD

Did you order the plumbing kit w/ the pump?

I did, and here's how I set mine up:

From the draw straw, run your line straight to the Assassin. (completely replacing the stock pickup line)

(pickup line is the one on the top right, and it came straight from the DS)

Then coming out of the pump, you run the line right back through where your pickup line came through. (watch out for moving steering components, so route your lines carefully)

The line going into the tee is the one coming out of the Assassin, feeding the VP44. (there's a chrome AN fitting that replaces the banjo bolt on the stock pickup line on top of the fuel filter housing)

On the back of the tee is the regulator. Here's a picture from the bottom:

Now, your draw straw has 3 ports on it. 1 for pickup, 1 for stock return, (VP44 and injectors) and 1 for Assassin return.

There is a tee up by the head that connects the VP44 return, and injector return. It's that way from the factory. What I did is cut that return line below that stock tee, and I clamped a piece of 3/8" fuel line just below that tee.

That line, which is collecting VP and injector return, takes that fuel into my own tee that I got from the hardware store, and I put that tee here, on the frame rail:

So I have my Assassin return (coming from the regulator) running straight through my tee. And the VP return comes into the side of my tee, and it all runs back into one port on the DS. In the kit, there should be a little threaded plug, with an allen head - that is to plug the 3rd port on the DS.

Sorry for the lack of detail, I was in a hurry. If you have any questions, ask away. I'll try to get some more info later. . .

EDIT:

I forgot to include that I still used my stock return line. About 1 foot behind my tee, I cut the stock return, and slipped the 3/8" fuel line over that, and clamped it. Then, I cut off the quick-connect on the end of the return line, and went back to 3/8" fuel line so I could connect it to the push loc on the DS.

The Assassin is a mean billet, trash eaten machine! :lmao:

An inline filter would help, but it's not necessary.

The only problem you might have, is junk getting in the regulator, and sometimes it will cause a pressure drop. But you just unscrew it, take it apart and rinse the junk out.

DTT is now making an 80 micron filter that goes before the tee. (see picture #2)

It's not the prettiest setup, it's kinda afro-engineered if ya ask me, but it's the best I could do, and it works!

Texas CTD would you be willing to compile a write up for this on the site? At least giving some people the basic information of install.

Yessir, I can try. I would like to get some better pictures, and I'd need some time to get all the words put together where it'll make sense. PM me, and let me know what all I'll need to do, as far as getting it to you, or uploading it, etc. . .
