Just a quick question guys, can the valves be too tight, or tighten up over time?.I went to chck my lash and went through in order, didnt find any loose, but all were on the tight side, the feeler gauge barely fit. I expected to find loose ones after 170k.Thanks for any input.

I've never heard of valves tightening up over time. If I remember right the valve lash spec are .010-.020 intake and .015-.025 exaust. As long as yours are somewhere in that range you're fine. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

Ok thanks i wouldnt think they would tighten up either, just was expecting loose. Thats great then. Thanks for the response.

absolutely they'll tighten up... when the seat starts going away, valve will rise in the head and close the gap. Most of the time the wear on the ball ends, rocker arms and shafts, cam and followers will be more than seat erosion.. thus actually 'loosening'. (normally)When you find a 'tight' one, the valve or seat is going away. (abnormal)Usually found when a person does a poor job regrinding the seats/valves. Not so much on virgin heads.

Nothing to worry about, if they were all consistant then someone previously set them before hand. If a seat or valve was failing you would have one that is really far out versus the rest and usually it wouldn'y last longif it was pounding out.

unless somebody put ARP head studs in one at the time andsqueezed head gasket, but you would probably know about that

Well that's not very comforting

No intention of freaking you out! Worry more about the 'one' that is WAY different than the rest! You said they are pretty much 'even', and like the others said: might just chalk it up to someone elses valve set, or the way they were holding their jaw at the time! One mans 'snug' can be another's 'perfect'.. Now, If you happen to find one that won't hold its clearance... then you want to freakout! do you know the history on this truck? virgin motor? You the only one who's been inside her? (geez that looks bad) Just don't forget about em!

Guys are right. As long as they all are just a bit tight I would would chalk it up to a overzealous adjustment. Range of allowance.Exhaust - 0.015 to 0.030Intake - 0.006 to 0.015As long as its between these number you good still. Like I using 0.008 and 0.018 for intake and exhaust.
