Posted August 19, 201410 yr So after helping my dad change the trans filter on his duramax i got to thinking, could i install something like this on my truck? would save the dropping the pan... maybe it woulnd't be worth it. thoughts ideas??? thanks.
August 19, 201410 yr Nothing wrong with the stock filter. Propper oil changes, band adjustments, and keep the tans cool are key
August 19, 201410 yr Owner He's wanting the luxury of dropping drain plug and spinning a old filter off and new one on. Kind of like Subaru's got. Then you never have to drop the pan for any reason nor have the huge mess. Dodge has always had the nice big pans that would flop down on one side make a huge mess then you had to change the filter inside the transmission.
August 19, 201410 yr Has anybody thought of running a spin on filter in the trans cooler line? A lot of marine engines had adaptors for inaccessable filters with high mounted remotes... same remote base in the cooler line. edit http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part-Type/Automatic-Transmission-Filters-Remote-Mount/ http://www.dieselsite.com/dieselsitetransmissionfiltersystemdodge2003-200759l.aspx Edited August 19, 201410 yr by flagmanruss
August 19, 201410 yr I think Frantz has a paper filter for transmissions available. What happened to Debbie? Looks like that outfit in California has taken over producing and the we filter it website is toast.
August 19, 201410 yr You can add a spin on filter but it wouldn't replace the stock filter. If the mess is a problem then add a drain valve. It would be the same process as adding an egt probe or trans temp sensor. Very easy.
August 19, 201410 yr Drain plugs are easy to install and pans are easy to drop So then the BD type compression fitting?
August 19, 201410 yr Yep those are the ones I use I think the "spin on" thing has been brought up many times. I cant remember why it always gets turned down.
August 20, 201410 yr Since the bands need periodic adjustment, not a bad idea to pull the pan anyway.
August 20, 201410 yr Filter should be changed anytime oil is changed and is cheap enough that any time pan is dropped. The drain plug is for easier drains
August 20, 201410 yr Author sorry ive been gone a while. my thought was to rid the use of the inside filter. disconnect trans line and have one suck new fluid in and the other push old out. i know dropping the pan isn't hard. i've done many of them. it was just a thought keep things cleaner like the allison has. thank you all for the info. i'ma have to learn how to adjust the bands though....
