Im a new guy on this forum, This is my first post and hope to exchange a lot of infro on this site, Any way I have been tyring to figure out an annoying leak comming from ps pump out the cap for months, The pump seems to Be genarating fluid and overflowing out cap. I can drain pump down a bit and it wont leak for awhile, then about a few hundres miles later it gains a few ounces and pukes it out cap, and of course makes a mess everywhere. I have already changed fluid (put ps fluid back in) and bled system, so I know those ideas wont help, I rebuilt vacuum pump about 150,00 miles ago, and there is no external leakage. The oil comming out of pump is real black, Is it possable for engine oil to seep in there internaly. There is no external leakage around hydroboost, but my brakes dont seem to have the poiwer assist they used to, and my steering seems fine. So any ideas would be helpfull before I start replacing parts that I dont have to.

is your brake reservior getting lower through time?  only thing i can think of is brake fluid leaking past seals while sitting and filling up the hydro assist lines. hard to tell the difference between PS fluid and brake fluid when mixed

I'm curious is the fluid overflowing when the engine is running or while its parked for that long period?

After its been sitting. Took it and towed the camp tailer up to 9000 feet for the weekend. I drove it Wednesday left Friday morning for another vacation and took the car came home Sunday night no leaks never touch it and on Tuesday I went out and found it leaking. Last time it was after it sat about a week also. I generally drive it to work everyday since my daughter drives now and uses the jetta and work is only ten miles so it's rare to sit to long but when it does it leaks. If I remember right it never did it before we were try to get it on the trailer (lift pump went out) and turning the wheels without it running it leaked all over out the cap. I think that might have done something to it it's probably not good to force it around without it running.

If the engine isn't running yes it will run over because the gear box will naturally pump the fluid out while steering. That is one of the methods to changing power steering fluid by going locak to lock with the return line unhooked and the engine off.
