  1. Auto Zone, Amazon, eBay to start. Got pretty well calibrated. Fuel usage was off by 7% out of the box. Speed off too by about 3%. Now that my fuel usage actual and gauge are matching I am averaging more like 16 mpg in my work route. Which only averages 30 mph. On my legs without stop and go I'm doing more like 19. And that's pulling a 3,000# trailer. Still need to do a freeway run and see how that does without the trailer. We are going to make a idaho trip here before winter sets in. I'll pull out the gauge, get a second cable and plug it into the Subaru. Should be interesting.
  2. Awesome. No hurry.
  3. How much and where to buy a snow plow for a second gen cummins? Hard to attach and remove? How much is left to the eye when it's off the truck?
  4. I've got an oil leak. Appears to be the hydro/vacuum pump. Not enough to leave oil spots on customers driveways, but where I park YES. there is what appears to be a weep hole like on a water pump. Is that where the oil comes out? Would best access be provided by pulling the radiator? I need to clean mine anyway. I've got big hands and they don't fit so well in little spaces.
  5. Wife and I doing some serious number crunching. We figure we could clear about $250k on our house and still have 2 rental properties and no debt. So whether we buy an unlivable cabin on land with septic and well for around $80k and build a small home and pole shop or find a turnkey place...I think it's doable. Would prefer to find a house that's fixable. Preferably a log or wood frame. Having water on site seems to be the big issue. Running water year round would be nice for electricity generation. We hope to come over before winter hits and look at some places we've only seen on the Internet. Not picky about location. Canada border down to maybe hwy 90 or so. And anywhere east to west. Looks good for fishing and hunting and retirement. Hope to mostly retire. I'll be 58 this year. Will probably need some income. Wondering about non emergency medical transportation service. We could make it, but some income would give us more to invest into the property. We think we can live on the rental income, but it may not be FUN.
  6. How is Idaho for vehicle registration? Expensive? Here in Oregon 2 years is $86. How nazi are they about trailer plates? Oregon under 1,800 gvw don't need plates. I've got a couple trailers that don't have titles or plates. Love the idea of towing two trailers at once!
  7. Wow, pretty substantial. Is that now? Heat of summer?
  8. I'd like to see what's driving that water wheel. Do you know if you can get government substity for solar system on an off grid system?
  9. I'm interested in cost and limitations of an off grid power system. I saw one property which had solar cells on the top of an old forest service lookout tower. Pretty cool!
  10. I've been looking at property via the Internet. Seems to be some prospective properties in the panhandle. I had no idea that could be 4-5 hours from your place. Bigger than it looks on a map. Oregon has such screwed up land use laws that if you want to get away from town you have to buy like 40 acres. So you're going to spend a half million to get something here. Looks like it's possible in Idaho for $200k.
  11. Pretty cool place in Bonners Ferry. Small house on 23 acres set up for off grid for $175,000. 328 dove rd. just miles from Canada and Montana. Pretty out of the way. Just needs a well. Has an old spring hole that's dry, so I bet water is not too deep. Just sell one rental and buy it! We could afford this without selling our home and go into it slowly.
  12. Blanchard and sun valley would be our timeshare location options. Either location free to us.
  13. Wife and I are looking to book some time a in-laws time share. Two locations available. Across from Spokane and sun valley. Both of which are like 4+ hours from Michaels. Our goal is to explore potential home site that's off the grid. We prefer wooded land rather than all pasture. We desire 10+ acres that has good access to firewood. Cheap price of course. Any suggestions as to where to look?
  14. I need Michael to go through my front end. I'll bet everything is toast.
  15. Did you have to remove anything to gain access to the steering shaft? Like hydro assist lines?
  16. Has anyone done this mod? Video makes access look easy, but with the hydro assist brakes not sure. They might also make a good vendor. I'll check that out.
  17. I had a Volvo Penta I/O boat motor. Chased water in the oil for a long time. Ended up being the cooler. Anytime you've got oil and water in the same component, you're asking for trouble. I'd go there before pulling the head for sure! I see the oil coolers are only about $100. If you take yours off, I'd just replace it. See if that fixes the problem and you will most likely never have to worry about that part again. Another reason to do the frequent cooling system flush and fluid replacement as Michael recommends.
  18. Sounds great guys. Might need some factoryish white to touch up the sills. Bare metal clear to the seal from feet rubs. Bad me.
  19. We went with Continue To Give. A faith based operation that does crowd funding, kiosks, text to give and online giving. Nice to have under one roof. Plus they integrate with our financial software, so no data input.
  20. God made us who we are, regardless of what we think of ourselves. Too bad there are so many people questioning their sexuality, etc.. God is in control of all things. Even the things we think we control. He allows things to happen even when we it doesn't make sense to us. Like the Middle East troubles. There is a reason for everything and we just don't understand what the reasons are.
  21. I'm married to Hammerite paint. Love the stuff!
  22. King David was a favored man by God. He was FAR FROM PERFECT. He had extra marital relations with a woman who was also married. Tried to cover it up with lies and even killing her husband to cover up the fact that he fathered a child with her. David paid a heavy price with the death of his son and other stuff. But God still loved him and forgave him. My opinion is, bring non believers to God and this will make up for a lot of imperfection. Pray often and study the bible daily and attend church regularly. Make Christ part of your daily life. But expect to be tested regularly by spiritual attacks. Christian lives are not without turmoil and grief.
  23. We cannot be perfect. Only Jesus was. We can put ourselves on a path towards perfection. Getting better all the time, but perfection will only be realized after our being in Heaven.
  24. I plan to paint my rocker panels black on white. What do you guys do with the area that you can see through the crack in the bottom of the door? Some paint worn off from foot drag over while entering or exiting the truck. So needs something. Mask off and paint into the door opening an inch or so? What is done with factory two tone paint jobs? Picture maybe with door open would be awesome. Plan on using black hammered finish Hammerite. Tough as nails. Has glass particles in it.
  25. If crooks put as much effort into legal pursuit of income as they do illegal, they'd do pretty good.
