What is this noise? (video)
Correct now its gone. Remember two important things 1) I am not a mechanic 2) I am trying to give my thoughts based on a video sound Having said that - the sound is identical. Kinda sounded more like a heavy "ticking" from in the cab but as soon as you put your ear to the CAI filter its more like a thud. So can only tell you what happened on mine and what the fix was. Cost me around $1000 with head work and new valves and labor and head gasket from meory. Wish I had upgraded my springs and headtsuds at that time. I dont know how serious it was/is - but I trusted my mechanic (I had to drive 1.5 hours each way to see him) and he diagnosed straight away. When I came back it was fixed. I have no idea if valves could get so badly damaged they fell into the piston - but I dont see why not if they are damaged. Id say take the truck to a trusted diesel mechanic and ask them if it could be burned/damaged valves or valve seats. I remmeber W&F saying in some years there are no valve seats or something.

What is this noise? (video)
ok I can see it now. Yeah - sounds exactly as mine was - thats the only way I kinda thought it was probably that. So Im not a mechanic - and I tried everything to isolate where it was from including a stethoscope and that made no difference - too much noise - just it was MUCH louder from the CAI and kinda sounded like it was comming from the passenger side more (probably due to the cai echo) - I ended up taking it to a diesel mech I trusted and he took 1 listen to it and told me. They had to pull the head and get it decked and new valves. Not fun. I *think* he said the problem is if the valve was damaged enough or got worse it could drop to the piston - or pieces of it. I dont know how true that is - but it kinda makes sense if its cracked or damaged from heat. Anyway - unless you can pull the head yourself - probably have to find a mechanic you trust. You also have a CR so Id hate for you to have someone to pull it unless they also thought the same and were a mechanic you trusted. So start there.

Can't see it asks for password. Stick your ear to your air cai filter box ... If the thumping is a lot louder there - likely you have a damaged calve or valve seat --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?ui31tt

Smaller compressor and exhuast housing - spools quicker but flows less air and reaches end of map sooner. Personally I liked my hy and didnt see a large difference until I went to a 60cm compressor

Head studs and twins build !!!!!
Yep - just a personal thing

Head studs and twins build !!!!!
With the he351cw running juice on level 6 (HOT) and +75 injectors aroudn 600 cruising. At WOT only around 1100-1200. With a load up a large incline I an hit 1275. I get nervous after 1100 - its just a personal thing. I can reach sustained temps of 1200 on large pulls and I dont like it - and I don't like taking hills slower than ~40 mph as I don't want the TC to unlock. Methanol helps - but I hate refilling - and twins will support me if I want to go bigger, give me higher boost in all rpm bands and cool my egts towing where I will trust the wife (she dfoesnt look at monitors). Studs should be started this monday/tuesday. Twins should be ordered today so 3 weeks till I get them. First part will cover stud install with pics. I have already redone my valve lash last week.

What if question
I almost lost a small torque bit down intake #6 pushrod hole . Scary. I think I know what my options would have been but curious if other ideas. Magnet on a string - 10% chance Pull cam and drop to pan and fish it out ( cry cry ) --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?h2xq1h

I feel like an idiot
yeah I know the thread you mean - it was actually that thread that gave me the confidence/thought to go tighter on the lash clearance but still maintain the feelers ..- but obviously my thought was wrong was really worried I might have dropped a torx bit into the pushrod hole in #6 intake tho - that was a very stressful 6-10 minutes until I found it and got it out.

I feel like an idiot
Well I did something different but similar just 2 nights ago - i started a thread on CF.Adjusted valves but whilst feeler was in I tightened down the adjustment screw very tight until it was hard to get feeler out (0.08 and 0.18 from memory). ANyway - started it up and man it was ROUGH - white smoke everywhere and engine stalled. I had figured with feeler in there I was still maintaining clearance. So unset them all and redid as per Mikes instructions - all fine.So I'll sit in the stupid boat with you man - we will still make it As for engine damage - I would think if the engine sounds ok after adjustment, your getting good mpg [compression] and dont have any exhaust/valve ticking/flutter (like a loose/cracked valve) then you should be fine

Smart is cool for a 65hp programmer - way better than anything else out there - and customizations - but it's not as good as a comp for pure hp. Your not missing too much there - it's just awesome for the other stuff and stacking - guess what I mean is font sell your comp for a smarty - as good as it is

well gonna have to see how the transforce do now Will let you know

Yeah start with a lower level than 7 first - just to be safe . I tend to be less scared of the tranny as mine is semi built - but better for you to be safer than sorry as it does get touchy ..,,. Then go up from there once your fine with controlling it with foot. Not sure if running in even numbers will give you any benefit over previous number as I think it's same setting but no added timing so want to stick with 3,5,7 ( that right Pepsi ? ) If I remember you can control other settings with smarty - but I forget . You should notice an increase in mpg - bob Wagner is on cf and noone knows more than him if we get real stuck here ;) --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?i40chi

OK guys, my engine stalling when the put in drive is back with the winter fuel blend.
I'll get back with better figures but around 800 in neutral and 750 in drive and down to 680 when first loaded on gear. It's 70 outside today tho - but stall can happen in warmer weather also but just less common or easy --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?105jt5

Try level 7 and just don't be silly withe the foot Most advance timing more on higher levels and better mpg, I saw little difference in mpg between all tuners tho - best bang for buck is either a juice/quad if you want guages or just a powerpuck with small new injectors You should get a upgraded vb tho and make sure not slipping the tc --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?42uws0

Lost 1mpg from stock - or from another tuner? Run it on a higher level with timing. Try 7

yeah same here Rethinking this idea If I can find a local painter to do cash work and me and him strip to metal for ~$1k I might do it. else Going to try and get the paint matched at a auto paint supply with their gun/camera thing --- and just sand bad spots back and do the best i can .... i think ...

how long it last for ? I just stopped by and got a quote - was $790 for whole truck 4 year warranty (mid/top range package). IS a single stage paint/clearcoat mix but not enamal; (urethane + IC).I had a look at a $300 enamel job coming out - and it really looked ok. I mean you could see close up where it was textured and not the bets paint job - but its better than whta I have now (will upload pics). I just dont want to spend $800 and have problems in 6 months. IF I get 3-4 years - should be ok.My plan is to build up the truck (interior and engine/turbos/etc) ...... and then eventually maybe even do an engine rebuild/overhaul. At that stage (5+years) - have a custom paint job with basically a new engine. I want to keep her for quite some time.*shrug*

Any experience with their products ? I'm not looking for a top of the line job something that will tie me over for 3-5 years ;) --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?dfcppe
