Proper Nv5600 fluid
That is incorrect. I read up on it for days and the closest oil was a texico brand. Either way it's change a few times in it's life. To me it's not worth experimenting with different oils in this case.

Longer cranking...
Hey Hey what temperature is it where you are? I notice on my truck that if it's warm my truck definately starts better....? hopefully this isn't my rings going...?? The only thing i can think if is metal is expanding because it's warm and it's sealing something.? I don't think it's my rings because i fired it up in the winter and turned it off imediately then let it sit for an hr and it fired right up no stumble or hick up or long cranking. I should plug it in over night then see if it fires right away... Ya i will do that, you should too just for kicks.

Steering upgrade
So that little play u had while pilling on the tie rod is gone? Were your wheels faceing forward? I'm sure mine still has it and it's been aligned. As for your steering box, did you just tighten the set screw nut? It sounds to me when you say " i got maybe an 1/8 of a turn" that is what you did??? anyway there is a set screw that you turn after you lossen the nut. Not sure if you did that or not. I tightened mine 1/4 turn but going to try 1/4 more n see if that lessens the play in my steering wheel. And YES i did notice easier steering to at slow almost not moving speeds. BONUS! I ordered up some NAPA bushings and they seem really hard too. The ones that come off there are very soft like play dough lol

But the fuel sits in the pump for how long before itbis burned? Not long i would say. I have fuel temp on my Edge Juice and after driving for a while snd then i stop, **** truck off, come back in 15 min and the fuel temp is 20 degrees higher sometimes. As soon as i fire it up it starts to drop. And my fuel pressure at idle is 13-15 psi... Any throttle at all and it drops to 11-13 so in that case it is saying no fuel is being returned to the tank because it's not 14psi or higher correct? Yet my fuel temps drop... That's because new fuel is being introduced from the tank and the other fuel is being burned up in the engine. as for my theory of the fuel being heated in the tank when over 14 psi fuel pressure's are used, I have a story to back that up. My buddy was living in his toy hauler for the winter. He had a woodstove in his toy haulier and what he did was he built a tank that went right on top of the stove ( just a little tank) and it had a sensor inside the tank so that when the water would get hot enough it would turn the water pump on and pump the water down into his water tanks which were below the floor .Then the water pump pumped new colder water from the same tank back up towards the woodstove. Well after a few hours of this he started to notice that the whole tank of water was warm and in fact it was even heating his floor, he was just expecting it to stop the water from freezing not actually be warm to the touch. So the same thing is happening in my mind if you were constantly pushing fuel through a heated injection pump and back to the tank . That would make sense to me because the way the stock feel pumps work they rarely see 14 psi other than at Idol .

Tow mirror options
I found a set of mirrors on some site and they were like the newest style truck i believe. Had the signals in the top corner as well as the light in the mirror shinning down. I'll see if i can find the link and they were priced well too. my buddy just bought a brand new Ram 2500 and i sat in it and honestly i like my old second gen better... But i loooved his mirrors compared to mine. That mod will change my whole truck! So are 4th gen mirrors a direct bolt on with these 2nd gens? Did u try Rock auto?

No i don't hear anything in the cab at all. You can't hear with that noisy engine lol i need to build a sound deadener for that stupid injection pump... Lol

I don't think so. I do see ULSD signs on some of the pumps. I'll have to look into that more. And what differences did you see in pressures? Higher pressures or just more stabilized and not droping so much? My theory is if you constantly pump fuel through that pump and back to the tank, eventually the fuel in the tank will become warmer because you are pumping it through a hot pump. . Not a big deal on short trips but on long hauls i could see it heating the fuel more. We should start a thread asking what peoples fuel temps are. I'd like to hear what everyone elses is. And another reason why maybe my Injection pump has lasted so long is my truck is a 6 speed and when i let off the throttle to shift gears the pressure jumps up everytime where as on an automatic trany maybe it would drop my pressures longer??? also I have the H.O pump. Did thecauto's come with H.O pumps?? Maybe that plays a roll. ???

Steering upgrade
Ha you'd swear it was the same guy talking about his truck between me and you... Same problems! Lol ya i turned mine 1/4 turn. Don't think it did a whole lot. Then i read u can go up to half a turn and if that doesn't cure it you need to do the other more involved adjustment. As for the steering this one is almost identical to the last set up i had just beefier. I know the dealer told me it had the lastest style upgrade on it. I honestly think if i just bought that kit but yet tightened my steering box that would make the most difference. Either way I like the extra beef on this kit. I'd live to look at a 4th gen truck n see if they have that little clunk.

I priced it out ftom NAPA (CANADA) and it was a little more that the mopar dealer.

What sensor? Like where is it?

Steering upgrade
I wonder if this is my wandering problem.. I remember seeing this video when i first got the truck a year ago. I googled it and there's a few articles claiming that it cures death wobble but i'm not sure about that.... 47 modifications later my steering will be tight lol Just checked mine and it has maybe 1/16" play. When i turn the shaft from under the hood my steering wheel turns with it. My play has to be in that steering box.

CHEAP EBAY APPS?????
Interesting. So were you able to rotate the tps to get a certain ohm meter reading? Isn't that how these are installed?

Ball joints
After lots of research i desided the XRF was the way to go. Sure the Carli ones were better but i wasn't going to spend that money. These are guaranteed for life ( i think) and i have about 20,000 km's on them ( 12,500 miles) there was no play side to side or up or down when they were new. I thought i checked them last oil change and they had slight up and down play. But from what i hear that is normal and acceptable. ??? as for u-joints i went with NAPA greasable on one side because it came with the truck and i went with a Dana Spicer non greasable on the other. I like the Non greasable ones better but will be cool to see which one lasts longer.

Most amazing mod I've ever made to a 2d gen... a new cupholder.
Haha that was a great post! Had me laughing. Ya mine is an 02 6 speed and it's " gogo gadget arm" to reach the cup holders... Lol

ABS and Brake lite stuck on
I replaced both front wheel bearings and my abs/brake lights are always on and were when i bought the truck. Speedo, cruise etc all work fine. I have it on the list to figure it out but it's way down on the list.

So big line kit on a stock brand new pump? And you left the stock size banjo bolts or changed them all to ones with bigger holes? Yep i'm fairly new to the Cummins world and the vp44's but i read a TON of literature and i just don't buy this big presure thing. Sure maybe with big turbo and injectors but not stock. Same with the 14 plus psi need to cool the pump, i don't agree with that either. I think you just end up heating up the fuel in the tank more... moparman is going to hate me for this lol. So on your speratic fuel pressures, is that an electric gauge? My edge was bouncing all over the place for fuel pressure and i have the alarm set for 4psi and it was going off like crazy. Ended up being a bad conection on the fuel pressure sender for the Edge. I unpluged and pluged back in. Good for a month them happened again. This time input dialectric grease on the plug and she's fixed for good.

oops Yep i have the exact same issue but my truck starts up much faster than yours. I'm wondering if it's injector o-rings or even an injector bleeding down?? i better send that oil sample in before i was out a cylinder if it is injector issues.... also my truck is WAY over due for a valve set... I can't see that being it but never know. My truck used to do this intermitently...now it does it all the time. Same year trucks same issues... Lol

Ha ha 435,000 km's running Edge Juice/attitude,air intake and MBRP 4" turbo back tells me the fuel pressure is just fine... Lots of towing too and all in the Rockies! I have 13-15 psi at idle and driving around town it's at 11-13 and on the hwy cruising it sit's around 9-11. Full throttle it goes down to 5 usually for a second then it comes up to 6-7psi. I know i know... That's just terrible for my injection pump... Lol but like i said 435,000 km's on this injection pump tells me it's just fine fuel presure. The Edge is usually always on 3 (Drive) and sometimes 4 ( race) and those pressures i gave are for mostly number 3. It doesn't drop the pressure too much maybe 1psi from when i put it on stock setting. I was thinking of putting those BD oversize banjo bolts but i'm not sure if it'll drop my pressure... I wonder if when i stab the throttle and i see my fuel pressure drop to 6-8 psi if those larger banjo bolts would keep the presure up?? I looked all over and can't find anyone who did an experiment with those banjo bolts on stock lines and stock pump.

You think the fourth gen will be the same length etc?? And where it mounts to the diff the end of the shock will have to be the same. Just something to think about. Mine bolted right in just needed that spacer for the bolt on the steering. I'm prettysure the Rancho shock i have came with it.. actuy maybe it's the same shock for 2nd and 4 th gen and that's why they give u the extra sleeve?? Would make sense. I have always heard how that steering brace makes all the difference so lets hope so...
-
Steering upgrade
Ya it's the same noise i have....???? Oh well at least we both have it! Lol P.S- i tried to measure that spacer for the steering shock but can't find my other one i had?? anyway just measure yours up to see what you need and hopefully you'll find one. So what steering did you have on your truck? The y or T? Mine had the latest update and this one is basically the same just much larger in diameter and the pivot point where the drag link goes up to the pitman arm is closer to the passenger wheel so i think that plays a roll on how it steers. Mine just seems to turn easier now...?? And i thought i read someone else that thought theirs did too. I gotta get that steering box tightened up or get a new box. And definately getting that DOR brace after seeing how vulnerable that steering box shaft looks. I looked at my pitman arm and i swear it has a slight bend to it.. Is yours like that? It's really hard to notice. I'll post a pic. It's really hard to get a photo of it... Check yours out if u don't mind and let me know. Oh and one other thing with these trucks that wander all over the road like mine. I'm starting to see a pattern here. I drove a 2001 3500 Dually, and this was before I knew anything about second Gens and I honestly don't remember the steering being bad at all. My buddy has a 96 it's a long box as well and he says his steers awesome ... Seems like it's a short box trucks that have all the issues.

Ha ya right!! That thing is not right! Period!!!! lol that thing should fire imediately or very close to it... So once it starts, u shut it off and it'll fire right up correct? I bump my key, the pump runs to 16psi then i start it and usually it fires instantly but some times it starts then stalls right away. Then i try to start again and she lights right away. Did you consider the vp44 itself? That may be my issue too?? I have very high miles on mine (435,000km's) but i have stock intank lift pump. As soon as mine fires up it's good for the whole day. You ride bulls for 8 seconds... U don't crank a cummins that long...? So can u get your fuel pressure to 16 psi then try starting it? I'm not familiar with these fass/airdog lift pumps. On my truck if it's warmer out it starts almost instantly. I thought maybe it could be my rings are going less compresion etc but last winter i went out, fired it up then **** it off. Went in house 4 an hr, go outside and it fires right up... So for me it seems like it's just fuel bleeding back.

Ok thanks.

They're on there tight but not too tight. I never actually torqued them. Just did it by feel. If u grab the msin tie rod and pull it forward and back do u hear a tiny clunk? It looks like very slight play on the passenger side.
