  1. It is the same fuel hose sold in the original Vulcan big line kits. Eric has changed over to a marine grade hose that apparently holds up better. I have had this blue hose on my truck of almost 2 years and no leaks or breaks yet. Apparently it is the outer layer of the hose that is cracking but I still don't like it.
  2. I recently purchased a 2001.5 Ram for my wife which still had the OEM lift pump in the stock location. After testing and determining 2 psi of fuel pressure, I replaced the filter which brought the fuel pressure up to 9 psi. Still not good enough in my book so I replaced the OEM lift pump with an Aertex lift pump in the stock location. This brought the fuel pressure up to 16 psi at idle but it could still be pulled down to about 10 psi. I found this to be marjinal and still not good enough. The next step was to relocate the pump. A friend was installing a 60 gallon fuel tank on his Ram 3500 and was generous in offering me the use of his shop to install my Air Dog 150 on my truck. He needed some help installing his tank as it was a steel tank a kinda heavy, not to mention bulky and a shoe horn fit. We decided to do all 3 trucks at once the same day so we started with the wifes truck. My friend had an old big line kit left over from when he replaced it with a FASS so we took the parts and installed them on my wifes truck along with an Aertex pump modified to accept the 1/2 fuel lines all the way up to the injector pump. The Aertex pump is still fed by the OEM 3/8 line coming from the tank. Wow! What a difference! The Aertex pump now makes 21 psi fuel pressure at idle and pretty well stays at that pressure throughout the engine operation range. The pump relocation down under and in front of the fuel tank REALLY makes a BIG difference and improves fuel flow. My wife' s truck is pretty much bone stock so this fuel mod. is a great low cost option fix to the fuel starvation problem. For a stock truck and I suspect even a stock truck with something like an Edge EZ, this fuel mod would work well.Is this mod. on the same level as the Air Dog or FASS??????? Not hardly, but every truck does not need an Air Dog or FASS although they are the top of the line solution to cover all applications. In my case, the wife does NOT like "all those gauge thingies" to confuse and distract her, so we compromised and installed only the fuel pressure gauge on the steering column. :cheers I guess what really surprised me is how hard the OEM lift pump had to work in the stock location to keep fuel pressure to the injector pump. It is a wonder MANY more failures weren't caused by this. I still think the Air Dog or FASS is the best solution but $500 is a lot of money and for folks on a budget and want a simple and reliable fix; this might be a good option. Note: Aertex requires a 70 micron or smaller prefilter for their pumps for warranty coverage. I still have to install an inline filter just before the pump. I am confident that as long as the OEM fuel draw straw pickup is intact with the fabric strainer screens, this will stop any particles big enough to cause any damage or problems after seeing the strainer screens in my truck's fuel pickup intalling the Air Dog.
  3. For what its worth, I called and spoke with a tech rep. from Baldwin yesterday and inquired about cross reference Baldwin filters for the Fleet Guard filters that go on the Air Dog and FASS. The lady I spoke with told me that they had several request for these filters but they do not manufacture any. She went on to ask me what they were being used for because they were curious as to why because they had received so many requests. I explained to her what and why they were used for and she told me she would contact their production side management to request then look into adding these filters to their production line. Fleet Guard makes great filters but they are just getting too pricey for what you get in my opinion.
  4. Thanks Mike. I mix mine at 100:1. I would think that would be HFRR 460 or a little better.
  5. Hey Russ, are you a Rifleman? Member of the Revolutionary War Veteran's Association? Here is a picture or my boy Mr. Mingo. in the middle with the white spot on his forehead. Miss Honey is the palomino, and Miss Arya is in the back (she is my daughters horse) This is our most recent addition Miss Lady. She is due to foal any day. Very sorry to hear about Nick. I know how easy it is to become so attached to them. They are like members of the family.
  6. I put a White Night backup light kit on my truck and the difference was like night and day. I can actually see clearly. If you buy the adaptor kits, plug, and backup light together, it is pretty much a plug and play install. A note to be carefully aware of is to be mindful of the chains when towing with these lights or remove them. If the chains pull tight, they will trash out the light assembly. I bought mine through Sportsman's Guide when they had them on sale for $50. http://www.whitenight.com/
  7. Good information! I guess this begs the question of how much improvement does the 2 stroke oil we add to our diesel fuel improve the lubricity? I am pretty sure it definitely helps but how much I suppose there is no way of knowing without exhaustive testing. Heck, diesel fuel doesn't even smell like diesel fuel anymore.
  8. I bought a set of these grill cold front covers for both trucks from a named Eric Buckel in Utah. They work well but they are a little rough with respect to an exact fit. A little adjusting and sanding here and there as well as replacing the nuts with nylock nuts in the hardware package and the holes not drilled exactly symetrical but they get the job done. I use a Sharpie marker pen to color the screw heads so they match the covers. If you have the cover stock on hand and the equipment to shape and sand them, you can probably make a set of your own cheaper but after the expense of obtaining the materials and such, I figured it was a 6 of one and half dozen of the other..... a wash. Below is Eric's ad. Tough ABS Plastic panels that bolt in your grille to reduce cold air and help your engine warm up faster.. 9. Got my Air Dog 150 installed last Saturday and LOVE it. Now I get a steady 18 psi. Was kinda of restricted in locations to mount it on my short bed but I like to location as it is up and out of the way for off road work. One thing I did NOT like about the Air Dog 150 installation kit was the crappy blue fuel hose. It cracks after a short time from installation. I am not sure if this is just cosmetic or a more serious issue. Overall real satisfied so far.
  10. Have you tried out the Baldwin filters yet Mike?
