  1. I wouldn't touch it as you will only be able to change the outer one if you could get it out, to do the job right it's a full strip down of axle and I'd say just changing the outer bearing would change the preload on the inner bearing, sometimes with the flange removed using a torch you can see what the bearing race is like if there is any damage If the seal was leaking was there any play before you stripped it and what is the seal path like on the pinion flange, if there is a groove where the seal lip was you can usually get repair sleeves with the right seal or just set the new seal at a slightly depth Another leak path is down the side of the seal steel if it hasn't got pre applied sealer or a rubber outer or a plain steel seal outer that wasn't fitted with a smear of sealant
  2. On the fence as I really believe in National Identity and if we had never joined the EU we would still be using Imperial Still messed up here though as our road signs and speeds are Miles and MPH we also buy a lot of loose food in LBS
  3. I am that very person
  4. I doubt they are now, my wife works at a College close to us, not what you would call a college though more a apprenticeship college, same one I did my 5 years car/truck/HGV apprenticeship back in the 70's but on a different site now, she used to be an exams organiser she is now retired and does exams invigilating part time, basically siting there make sure the oiks don't cheat, anyway she has always said how skills here are dumbed down just to get the people through the door and the government funding, here the GOV pays employers to take on school leavers and to teach them skills, doesn't work as they are mostly as dumb as sticks with mobile phones stuck to their eyes
  5. Our ply is 2400x 1200 actual but everyone knows 8x4, if you ask for 8x4 you get 2400 x 1200
  6. I was one of the unlucky (or maybe lucky I don't know) that was at school when this country changed from Imperial to metric, one day we were taught imperial next day metric, I still use both even on the same job, as in measuring something 13 9/16th x 230mm I use whichever lines up the best as you can imagine I don't do a lot with wood
  7. Getting to the point that OEM isn't guaranteed to be good I've been working on a Volvo L110E loading shovel for a few weeks now on and off, original fault was coolant level sensor warning coming on intermittently, Lots of bubbles in the header tank and I mean lots, so did a combustion gas test and not conclusive, pulled the water pump and big time cavitation had ate slots down the sides of all vanes so water pump, thermostat, still coolant level warnings when level was ok. Changed the coolant level sensor for new OEM Volvo Tested for combustion gas in the header tank 5 more times on separate occasions and it started to fail , did head gasket and new radiator as there was a few colder spots Sent the machine back to work still coolant level warning but no bubbling in the header tank, at no point did this overheat ever Volvo diagnostics says coolant sense wire back to ECM shorted to earth or sensor fault..... this was new.... disconnect the sensor no more warning so new sensor is faulty. OEM volvo
  8. Am I missing something as the post I replied to shows quarterly sub in green
  9. I wasn't aware of that BUT with the problems with his truck I see another member subscribing soon..... And to the OP your crank/cam sensor will cost way more than subscribing and is in no way guaranteed to fix your truck
  10. One thing to remember, just because a sensor is new doesn't mean it's good
  11. You know I'm on the fence as to which scale to use, at the high summer temps I get F easier but at the freezing point of the scale C is easier as in 0 is where water freezes or at least supposed to freeze
  12. First off, how did you confirm the batteries were 1. charged and 2. In good condition ? I take it there is no visible bulging of the casings ? Voltmeter across a battery doesn't really cut it for checking if they are good, disconnect them, charge them fully preferably low and slow (after checking electrolyte level) then do a drop test, most people do not have the equipment to drop test Are the battery terminals good ? If batteries are good, is the alternator good and not shorted ? Disconnect the quad... what happens ? Disconnect the batteries and on reconnect with everything OFF there should only be the smallest of spark, if it is a proper splash (as called here) thats a good indicator of a short Earths. The ones I have had problems with are down by the drivers headlight.... there are 2 Your new fuel lift pump, have you Ohms tested it to make sure it hasn't shorted out, the pos and neg wire to pump disconnect it and with a multimeter set on Ohms test to set what you have 0 is bad, the pump motor will have a resistance figure not sure what it would be. My meter is a Fluke ( Fluke being the meter manufacturer) and it bleeps when 0 Have you access to a good code reader ? it might not work as you have bus problems but worth a try I have just re read your post and firstly I would be disconnecting your reman ECM and PCM then check batteries, alternator and wiring then Lift This is what I would be doing..... not saying it's right
  13. That's what I did with my truck just disconnect at left battery and tuck the leads out of the way, could maybe do with reconnecting mine though for a few months as one day last week we had a cold night, maybe -7c (yes I know that's not cold to some of you ) it took 2 tries before it would carry on running and sounded like a precombustion chambered Cat 769 coughing and spluttering to life, worst thing is I have THE relay to do it properly but never got around to it. Mine also sets codes but they don't effect anything and I feel they are safer/easier on the charging system disconnected
  14. My Wife has had a few bad experiences on Ebay through buying from china, luckily she doesn't use my Ebay account she has here own, she bought a pair of vary focal glasses where there was 2 sets of lenses a bit like binoculars with adjusters on each side, in theory a good idea, best not to have made the plastic lenses out of barely melted soda bottle plastic, it was like looking through Medieval glass and another time she bought what was supposed to be a robot bear, turns out just a stuffed toy, oh and solar garden water fountains, these arrived and were 3" tall with a small solar panel glued onto the top no pump, no wiring nowhere to put water, these are still on our patio in plain view as a reminder NOT to buy anything MIC if possible. Thing is she still doesn't learn as I'll bet a £ to a pinch of ##it all xmas toys she has bought the grandkids are MIC
  15. Sold exclusively by Flybynights and Delboy Trotter, and if you guys don't know who Delboy Trotter is I suggest a google session, 64 episodes of pure English humour, only rivalled by Fawlty Towers
  16. To be fair I buy a lot off of Ebay and never usually have a problem but most if not all of what I buy is in the UK, sellers here must be better as it's next to no cost to return items maybe £4, In fact just recently I bought a Peugeot Boxer (3500kg tipper) drivers door window switch, arrived wrong, my fault not the seller, he send a prepaid return postage label and refunded 100%. Also I recently had my yearly statement for sales and I'm at over £5k for the year and 100% FB, dead easy to reach the whole of the UK and beyond, I just last week sold a 03 5.9 gas engine ECM to a company in Poland, I sell a lot of Cat stuff to Dubai never a problem. No one here would advertise stuff for sale without it actually being on stock...... drop ship not done here much as yet thank god Luckily the exchange rate was just about in my favour, I lost £ 0.08p, ordered from Rock with new hoses, clamps and rad cap
  17. Well you just couldn't dream this up, got the message below from the ebay seller this morning New message from: radsus (21,868) Thank you for your order. The backer plate for the radiator is to short and wont mount properly. The manufacturer is aware and has recalled item. The corrected/enhanced item will be available apprx 1/19/2022. We apologize for inconvience and have issued a full refund. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Cordially, Dean McHale I sent a message back informing him I am a mechanic of over 40 years and that could he explain WTF a "backer plate" is in relation to a radiator, ebay lists him as in USA but the wording makes me doubt that. Quite a lot of bad FB which I didn't check as I was in a rush...... my fault doh ! We have just had an interest rate rise so when the refund hits my account I'm hoping the £ is stronger to the $ might mean I get back more than it cost, we'll see Luckily my rad is still only leaking when cold and running, doesn't leak cold standing and doesn't leak when warm, this rad was supposed to arrive between today and 5th Jan Rockauto here I come which I should have done from day 1
  18. Yes agree 100% people that are not ok with driving in the snow should stay home I've been watching a series of hour long TV programs about Tow truck companies in Norway ..., Ice Road rescue I think it's called now that's snow, no difference to the USA in places but very different to here, well different to where I live in the UK, Scotland and the North of England can and does get a lot of snow also the East and West Coasts ( close to the sea) I live pretty much right in the middle of the UK (Midlands which is rather innovative don't you think... NOT) snow has usually dropped out of the sky before it gets here Thinking about it councils here may well use more grit than salt
  19. They use salt here too and lots of it as car drivers here find it difficult driving on wet roads never mind snow, thing is both my trucks don't really have rusty calipers yes they are covered in rust but only surface rust. Ideally they ought to be powder coated but I'll leave that to a buyer if they sell
  20. I'd be connecting a live data scan tool and firstly checking for codes then on live data see what is actually happening I've never bothered with the key trick It is always best to pull codes rather than guessing as that guessing costs money, if there isn't any codes using a good scan tool then at least live data should point you in the right direction When I bought my truck it had a dead spot sometimes, if you backed off a bit and then on it again sometimes it would be ok sometimes not, but the P/O had said he had just replaced the apps, turns out the plank had replaced it with a £15 part made you know where, live data showed one spot on the pedal all over the place, I replaced it and all good, threw the faulty one in the glove box as it is a get me home part even though it is faulty I didn't fit a Timbo as it was just before I found this forum
  21. That's pant's I really hope mine arrives correct or I will also own a gas rad with no chance of sending it back
  22. yeah pleased how they turned out They had been painted red and it was horrible, more rust than red, I figured it would be quite difficult to paint them with a paint that would really last and look good
  23. Got these calipers cleaned and rebuilt with new everything inc pads checked on R/A and the total to ship the very same from Rock would be just under £750 to my door which includes calipers with brackets, pads, slider kits, pad steels,(whatever you call those) pistons piston seals and boots and bleed nipples On Ebag at the moment
  24. That is a gas radiator, the right side outlet on the diesel is about where the white stripe is
