  1. Took the truck to the dealer and told them my problem. They through it on a hoist and was going to grease it when the employee came in and said he could not see it. I was allowed to go with him and an older employee to look. They could not find it and took the shaft down. They found a dark red / brown color material over the opening. It was very hard and had to be picked off with an awl. They said they never seen anything like this. They verified the joint was fine and grease and installed it. The material was collected to be sent to the manufacture. Since I did have the dealership grease it the first couple of oil changes and it was documented, it cost me nothing. From under the vehicle, no one could see the fitting. I don't fell like a total idiot now.
  2. For years I have heard so many stories on this topic and as many personal testimonies, (mine included) on this topic. (I personally have shown an increase of mpg since installation of a larger exhaust, but have 'NO' actual technical data as to proof And, I could have done something else, like a slight change in driving habit I didn't notice.) And I have yet heard any actual documented engineering reports that can quantify the advantage of increasing or not increasing the stock size of the exhaust. I have Google this on the net, looked in the library, read many website pertaining to diesel engines, discussed this with 2 engineers I use to work with ... and nothing.I do know for a fact, from engineers, that they are told to figure out the 'minimum' amount of anything to save money, so a company can increase profit. Add to the fact that the EPA wants 'perfect air quality' that is NOT achievable in real life makes this more confusing. Does anyone have ACTUAL data on this topic ?

  4. Interesting read, but I would like to ask;Why does the manufactures of big rig diesel trucks (like Kenworth and such) put on exhaust like 6" stacks for a full exhaust of the gases ? The turbos outlets are not that large of an opening the last time I looked, yet they are over size exhaust ?Just wondering.
  5. This reminds me of my friend who tows cars for a 2nd job. He was called out to tow a car to a repair shop, and the lady owner came unglued since his diesel truck was idling while he was trying to her info and hook her car up. He told me he was polite, let her finish, apologize to the lady for the diesel order, gave her back the info and drove off. She was left on the I-15 highway between Baker California and State Line Nevada in August, about 2 pm. There's no shade and well over 100 degrees.She would have a looooooooong wait for a electric tow truck to get there.
  6. Going to have to raise the truck again and look. In the past, I've done everything from using a brass wire brush to clean every square inch, compressed air to clean, wiped light oil on the metal to clean and look and I thought I did everything I could but found nothing. My friend that has an 06 says it's a bit hard to find, but does his own looked and was shocked he couldn't find it. This has been hell.Going back out to try again. Thanks
  7. Thanks. I've never had these before and was concerned with the grease every oil change in the manual. I called the dealer a while back and asked if there were non greaseable ones. He said to grease every oil change, and if I couldn't, they could. Guess they wanted me in to charge for nothing.
  8. I have looked over the front driveshaft u-joint each time I changed the oil and have yet to find where to grease it. Because of taking the time to look each time I change oil, it takes an hour to do this. I need help. I have read through this site, other sites and have spent enough time reading on this topic, it’s like spending months in a library. One pic shows where to grease (I borrowed from another site), and the other is my front joint. There is a major difference. a) On the older style joint there are retaining clips holding the caps on.b) There are NO retaining clips holding the caps in on mine, but little pins through the side. There is no hole for greasing anywhere on this u-joint or yoke. Is there a u-joint that you do not grease ? My owners’ manual states grease EVERY oil change. I’m so %*#^&*!# confused.

Well I'm not a pro with the auto in the dodge, but as for actual use, in 2006, I had a stock vehicle and moved from California to Tennessee (total of 2,000 miles) with a 10k trailer filled to the max and had no problems with it. It did need to be put it in tow when I was going up the Rockies and went back to OD the rest of the pull. Outside of wanting better mpg, I praise my truck.Since then I have not pulled that heavy for that mileage, but have had no issues with my trans. Hope this helps.

Nobama said when he was running for office that 'He Will Change The Way Of Government As We Know It' and I will say, people who voted for him 'didn't listen' to what he said and 'He is keeping his word'.Coal and oil is the energies we use the most for electricity production and what we have the most of. (Even though they are the most regulated and as time goes by the cleanest). With giving the EPA control over all he has empowered them with since taking office, it's no surprise this is on the table. (Now remember, he also gave them control over CO2, which includes up to and including what YOU exhale. (so be sure to brush your teeth and use mouth wash or you will be fined or shutdown).This next election, 'Listen to what they are saying, 'Consider' the alternatives of what they are saying and "Vote' properly. Or if you believe The 'Self Anointed One' can be center right the second term, please get a mental check up, for it will be another 4 years of what we just had ... or more !
  12. There are 3 liquids that need to be right for your truck. Fuel, Oils and Coolant.When your buying oil, go by what the trucks requirements are by the manufacture and that the container meet these requirements. If there is a discrepancy on the label, let someone else play with it. The oil for a gasser IS different than diesel. That's why there is a rating requirement standard set. Rotella is good oil. But this can cost you more than oil and a filter. Buy something that meets your need. I had a question on the label and changed brands.
  13. I've been told there's Bio here. Been told of a couple of places that sell it.Have yet to find it. Been lucky to find a station with 5% Bio mix. If I leave the area, I've seen 10% Bio mix. Outside of that ... were still in the past.
  14. I had a 1992 Toy pickup for almost 14 years and 400k. I maintained it per the manual and did not cheat on the quality of parts, oil and such. I gave it to the kid next door when I retired because I wanted a retirement truck, my Dodge. It was easy to maintain and gave me the same mileage from start to finish. It impressed us so much, my wife wanted the 4 door pickup as her retirement truck. I believe in Buy American, but you can't beat the Toys.
  15. After seeing all the storms coming in from Africa heading to the gulf, you should getting something soon. My friend said there was a sign next to the road that said "Satin wants the heat back, give it up Texas". He also is considering doing like they did in Santa Barbara Calif a few years back, cut the grass short, spray it green and the hell with it.

  17. Also add this, when filling, stop at the 10 gallon mark and make sure the price matches the amount. People don't do this and it can be off even by a small amount. Add this up statewide and the money wasted is in the hundred of thousand per day.Stations usually will make sure you are good, and secure the pump. They don't want to be reported to the state weight and measure department which MUST be posted at the pumps.
  18. Agree. But does this mean you discount checking the media entirely ? If the media was designed for this individual vehicle, it should have a service life considered by the manufacture.I'm just suggesting checking the media for possible concerns.Also, the indicator could be of question.
  19. I agree with Michael, it could have been to dense.Food for thought. When I worked, we had differential pressure gauges indicating condition of media. On one one air filter system, we took the media out and check for efficiency, and found out it was actually 'very' effective, more than estimated by the engineers. When air was blown backwards through the media, there was a dust cloud emitting from the filter and collected in the test chamber. Shorter filter life than expected, but best for the $1.4m machine. Was the removed filter check for possible debris ?
  20. My friend in Texas said they felt like their living in hell. But would rather that right now instead of what their going through in New York. Just heard Manhattan rivers on each side are starting to over flow, per the news, and with the rain and winds, it's going to be very rough. My friend in New Jersey lives 2 blocks from the beach and took his family to another state for their safety. He hopes they have a home to go back to when it's done. Hang in there Texas, it's hot and dry, but sooner or later the gulf will change and give you back the rain. Hope not to fast thou and cause flooding.

  22. I run SW1 with timing. After talking to the Smarty folks on their 800 #, they said as long as your 'stock', don't run over SW5 with timing. If your not pulling, the system really helps when your in town driving, not so much on the highway. If your using less than the horse power your engine makes, how can it improve to much above that. The 'with timing', per Smarty, keeps you fuel system at a constant, thus making it easier on the engine. When your pulling, an increase will help city and highway with improvement in power. But per them, don't go over SW5 unless you invest in your trans and engine, for it can cost you in the long run. Like I said, I run SW1 because I don't lead foot it, I don't use one heck of a lot of horse power to drive down the road, and I keep my Smarty handy if things change and I need to ramp it up. I have run my truck in SW1 for 3 tanks, SW3 for 3 tanks and SW5 for 3 tanks. My mileage didn't really change any. I might be wrong, but why ramp it up if you don't need it. Change it as you need it.I will say this, call them on their 800# and they will take time time to answer your questions.
  23. Just ran the first tank through the Kubota and 1/2 through the second. It's quieter and doesn't seem to bother the engine. The Massey isn't used much right now, but plan on more work soon and hoping it will quiet it some. To bad I can't tell if it will use a taste less fuel per hour.
  24. Thanks. I've never tried it in the farm equipment before. And the price you pay for parts and labor is far from cheap. My equipment runs good, but a taste rich. Could be I notice only when it's under a good load. (Been over 40 years since I ran a tractor and such. And an old 8N is different than what I have now).
  25. I'm old fashion and it took a long time to feel comfortable putting something into my fuel like the 2 stroke oil. I was always picky with my fuel, keep it clean, filtered and such. Does anyone else run 2 stroke in their farm equipment ?If you do, have their been issues or improvements ?I have a 40 hp Massy and a 28 hp Kubota lawnmower, both diesel. I'm thinking about starting it in them.
