Valve Lash
ISX, very cool idea. :thumb1:This is interesting to see the results. Another idea I had while sitting here was that there may be a 3rd and 4th option. 6/15; 15/30You could set lash at opposite ends... So 15int/15exh & 6int/30exh. My best guess is that this would shift your best power around a little... But since you are experimenting, it might be interesting to try.

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate it as its the most clear and detailed answer I've found anywhere on the web! I'm sorry I guess I missed something, but it makes sense now. Hopefully it wasn't too much effort to clairify.

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
Well, I will stay away from the oil plug... :D I am just concerned at the 99-00 thing. I haven't talked to anybody that has done it, and my Dodge mechanic as well as Rocky Mountain Cummin says "it can't be swapped, as its 1. a different year, and 2. it needs to be blank before our software can flash so it matches the vin in the PCM and the rest of the truck." Does anybody have personal experience with a good shop fixing their ECM that worked right out of the box as-advertized? What shop? I would rather pay a grand to Chrysler than deal with non proven parts. I wonder if Bob Wagner would be willing to look at it. I figure the guys that made the Smarty can diagnose an ECM.

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
Thanks! I just don't know who to believe... If that ECM will work, I will get a money order out monday! It kinda sucks not having any experience with this. I guess thats what I am getting now right? What did you end up doing with your ecm? Did you get a new one from Chrysler or did you go a used route?

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
Wow! That might be great! let me talk to the mechanic, and I will see what hey says. I might buy that from you.Edit - UpdateWell, after talking to Cummins, they are adamant that it has to be the same year engine before to work. That sucks. I was really hoping that I could buy your ECM and save a bunch of money.

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
Thanks for letting me know... I am going to be out of town for a few weeks for work, so I am budgeting for a $1000 ECM. Hopefully yours goes really well, and if so, mabe I can use the same guys you are looking at. Then I can spend the other $600 on something else! Like new injectors! :D

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
From looking at their list of dodge ecms, I don't see an ECM in their Dodge list... I only see PCMs. Hopefully I can call them monday. Were you talking to them about the ECM that is on the side of the engine, not the PCM on the passenger side firewall?

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
Something shorted out in it, it won't respond to any of the cummins diagnostic inputs. Strangely, the truck still runs okay. A miss here or there, but I think thats some injector issues.I've been looking at craigslist etc, but haven't found any yet for my year & transmission combo. I also haven't been able to get any info on what other makes & models might fit it either.

I called Wagner yesterday, and they didn't have any. Where else can I get one? I haven't found anybody yet...

Installing New ECM, anybody know where I can get a cheap ECM?
I am planning on getting a blank new ECM from Chrysler, as I can get it for wholesale, a mere $1003.00 before tax. :spend:FYI all, the ECM listed on RockAuto is not the Cummins ECM, its the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), thankfully RockAuto takes returns. :smart:Then, if the ECM install goes well, I am getting a set of the Bosch RV 275 injectors. Then, if the truck runs well, I am going to put my edge back on.Then, I am going to fix the control arms. Then, ... it never ends does it. :lmao:Has anybody installed an ECM before? Anybody have issues that I could be facing? I am planning on buying it new, supposedly "blank" and having a mechanic friend of mine with a current copy of the cummins software flash it to my truck.

ok, this is all i have for now. I guess its fair, you guys are answering my questions about my possessed truck. Wireline lubricator. wireline winch cable runs through this under pressure to bring the guns down to perforate the casing. really pretty frac picture. Rigging in. There were 13 semis and 6-8000 hp in this pic 4 hours later. Looking out at the high pressure iron, you can see the fluid ends for the frac pumps.

Frac'ing, short for Hydraulic Fracturing is the pumping of high pressure (10,000 psi) water & sand into oil & gas bearing rocks. The fluid makes small cracks in the rock, and expose more formation area to the wellbore. These cracks are filled with sand to keep them open, as the water flows back to surface followed by oil! Think of fracs as making a BHAF for high flow underground. Microseismic mapping is the mapping of these fractures using similar tools to how they track earthquakes. We lower these geophones down nearby wells on a wireline unit and listen to the frac... A while back I was in frac full time, but I now do the monitoring. The engines are cool, starting a Cat 4312 off a PTO from a kenworth is fun. When you have 10-14 pumps on location, you have around 20-28,000 hp rolling. It can be very neat. Mabe I can post some photos tomorrow from my work computer... We used to have an old A model pump that didn't quite have the fueling or turbos it used to, we used to joke that it burned wet leaves. It would smoke like crazy when it was ramped up from idle. It definitely rolled coal, but it ran. It also got less power than the non smoky pumps. Sorry for the hijack. edit- pics of snow to make the OP jealous heres some pics of the lease roads out in Western Colorado in the winter

Well, my profile says Oil & Gas engineer and Project Manager - MSM Frac Mapping. I end up travelling (in a ford explorer ) througout the rockies for microseismic monitoring of hydraulic frac jobs. A cool part relevant to this forum is that hydraulic fracturing pumps are usually powered by V-12 or V-16 Cat or Cummins engines. Here are some pics of frac pumps I get to work around each month... Lots of diesel. Schlumberger and many others have the same sort of pumps, but I have Halliburton pics handy. Halliburton 4312 cat powered 2000 hp pump Radiator shroud for BIG 6cyl inline cat Requisite truck pic, the day I brought my Ram home And, last but not least, Old Glory and the Gasden flag

South Texas... Heat, check. Illegals & drug runners, check. BFS (Big Friggin Spiders), check. North Dakota in the winter.... -60F, check. Living in a Man-Camp, check. Colorado, pleasant 70-80F days in the summer, teens to 40F in the winter, check. Wyoming. Colorado with an extra helping of WIND. Check. My work takes me to all these wonderful places! Why couldn't God have made volcanic soil produce oil? Then I could work in Hawaii!

Neither are oil wells. I was pulling tools out of one in Utah last month and the neither the scent or looks were very appealing.

fuel life
Gasoline "varnishes" due to evaporation of some of the light hydrocarbons, and the reaction of Oxygen with some of the stuff in Gas. That stuff is mosty additives, 100LL Aviation Gasoline won't varnish as bad or nearly as fast. This is due to 00LL having minimal additives and you can easily tell as it still has that pure "old school" gasoline smell. Diesel has heavier hydrocarbons, so it doesn't have as many light hydrocarbons (solvents) to evaporate. Diesel also has a lot fewer additives, so the oxidation process is minimal. Diesel and even gasoline will last for a LONG time when properly stored. Usually Oxygen and Heat are the primary contributors to varnishing. If you think about it, its been stored for "millions of years" (an unknown, but very long time) in rocks and came out of the well just fine. Its usually the additives we put in gas and the way we store it are what kills it.

Will 03-09 control arms fit my 2nd gen ram?
I am told by a Dodge mechanic that the control arms will fit. Anybody try this? Does anybody know if the front springs will fit? Perhaps level out the truck without a levelling kit?

- Please Help Troubleshoot, bad ECM, poor mileage, possible injectors, po234
Hi everybody. I am new here, and I have an interesting problem. Thanks in advance. 2000 5.9, 5sp, 4x4. 210,000mi. New injector pump from Midwest EFI, new Air Dog 100 lift pump. Otherwise stock. After sitting for a few days, it will take 5-10 sec crank time to start, but once it starts it runs normally. Tech is steady and normal. Not much smoke except at RPM near redline. When the truck is warm, if you let it idle, it will miss slightly. Power sucks over 2000 rpm, but isn't bad overall. Throws PO234 overboost code, but I feel that is due to the fact that I left my Edge boost elbow on the turbo. Edge juice CTS won't connect to the ECM, Dodge says that the Cummins Insite computer won't connect to the ECM. However, the truck still runs, and not that badly. The truck has had an edge juice w attitude installed previously, and I may have shorted out something in the ECM when I uninstalled the previous Juice. I also get 13-15mpg. The Dodge mechanic feels that I got some grit in the injector lines when I installed the pump, and fowled a couple injectors, then over the course of a couple days the fuel system is bleeding down. He also says that since his Cummins laptop won't connect to the ECM, I need a new ECM. He did use a scope to confirm the timing marks and the keyway on the pump is correctly installed. I need to check the fuel pressure coming out of the Air Dog, to ensure that it isn't too high... How high is too high? (I used to use an edge attitude to monitor the pressure) Any ideas guys? I am skeptical about the injectors theory, since I would expect it to smoke a lot more at 13mpg. Would the injector O rings or fuel bypass at the back of the head cause any of these symptoms? And I really want to make sure the truck is going to run decently before I drop $1,600 on a new ECM... - Please Help Troubleshoot, bad ECM, poor mileage, possible injectors, po234
