Earlier this fall I finally had enough of the cheap fenders that came on my car hauler so I decided it was time for a new set. The stockers were cheap aluminum that would bend and break if you looked at them wrong so instead of buying new ones I decided to build a bullet proof set.

Now I will admit these things are way overkill and didn't need to be built completely out of 1/4" plate but that's what I had so that's what I used.

Out of gas in the wire feed on day one so I stitched them together with the stick welder.

Fired up the wire feed and corner welded everything.

I would have liked to make them out of diamond plate for some added traction but I didn't have any and didn't feel like buying any. They are very sturdy and work good as a support for some short sideboards or I can easily drive over them if I'm loading a wide vehicle.

Very nice! Fenders get crushed way too easy, and those will easily stand the test of time. Little thicker than I would have gone but sometime you gotta use what you have!

BTW those welds

Those are tough enough if you had to you could roll dually tires up over them. Doubt you would, but you're right its overkill.

That was kind of what I was thinking, I like to have options.

I came real close to buying a big gooseneck like this when I was trailer shopping but talked myself out of it. The length and capacity would have come in very handy the last few years but on the other hand the smaller trailer keeps me from hauling really big projects home, which also keeps me in a happier marriage.

This trailer is heavy, its a 26 foot deck with a 4 foot pop up dovetail for a 30 foot total length, about the same weight as the pickup, together empty I weigh in @ well over 14K lbs. This old 5020JD weighed around 17K alone?

You are making me feel better. Just weighed my self on the way home from Alabama and grossed out at 23k. About 500 pounds more than the last time I weighed myself.

Buzzin, the fenders look great.

Having a monster gooseneck is awesome, but it becomes a pita when you want to pick up something small that doesn't fit in the bed of a truck.

The fix to all yalls problems is to just acquire more junk.  I'm not even going to try and make a list of all the trailers around here.  However, making a list of the ones that work like they should would be a little easier.

Perfect working trailers:
