Cooling the VP44

Thanks to you all for the information. I only use the fan after the engine is running going down the highway, so my questions are only educational, and interest.

 

After a good cup of coffee in the morning I'm pretty sure my starter motor always spins the right way anyhow

I was gonna ask @KATOOM you sure your engine didn't do a 3cyl run for a bit? I don't know if it gets cold enough down your way to need it so just curious. Definitely sounds alarming if you've never heard it.

 

Using Mikes high idle switch, I can get two kinds of 3cyl high idles. One that actually happens with the switch in that position, and another one if I do the previous, don't shut off the truck, let the truck come back to idle and switch to 6cyl, it'll do it again, but it doesn't sound the same as the actual 3cyl high idle. Weird. 

 

As far as cold fuels concerned, when would you guys recommend running an after market fuel heater for guys like me with a FASS and not running through the stock fuel filter?

Yes, it acted like it was in the 3 cylinder high idle.....but without the high idle part.  Odd to say the least.

 

And yes, it was a result of trying to cool the VP after driving in hot weather too.  Something I dont do anymore and I'm sure MoparMan is on to something about the adverse affects.....but again, as strange as it was, I dont believe it was running backwards.

 

As for a fuel heater, I'm not sure you need to worry about it unless you find there's a problem with the FASS hanging down in the cold during the frigid winter weather.  And I guess it would also depend on how cold it gets where you live.....
