Blinker issue driving me nuts

Recommended Posts

OK I've been messing with this blinker issue for a little bit now, my drivers side front turn signal won't blink, but the running light works. I've swapped blinker relays, along with the turn signal actuator, and cleaned my grounds. Wtf am I missing?

A good time by screwing around with your truck.

If all the other lights are working it is probably a bad weir/connector between the switch and the blub socket or the socket it self.

First I would ohm test the light blub. I.ve seen blubs look good but ohm test bad.

Next I would check to see if there was voltage at the blub socket.

If yes go and ohm test the ground for the blub socket.

If no trace the wire back to the connector  (junction block).

Is there voltage at the connector (junction block) pins C1 C5.

If yes repair wire from connector to socket.

if no check for voltage at pin 11 in the turn single/hazard switch.

Ohm testing blub socket ground.

if continuity (0Ω) then see above.

If no continuity ( open circuit) then check for broken wire or poor contact at body ground.

IBM, the bulb does light up with the running lights turned on, just won't flash with the blinker turned on. So I can rule out the bulb socket and bulb itself. I'll do some poking around with the meter some more

The park light is dim and the turn signal is much brighter or are both filaments powering up.  If you turn on the park lights and the right turn signal at the same time you'll see the difference.

The blub, a 3157NA, is a double filament type.  The turn signal and park light filaments are rated at 400 and 38 lumens respectively.  There can be a problem with one part of the socket and/or blub and not have it effect the other.
