Engine Swap??

Recommended Posts

Ok i have my 02 that was crashed and an 01. Both are H.O. 6pds. The 02 is 2wd and other is 4x4. I want to put the 02 in the 01. Has way less miles and is just in better shape. Will i have to swap computers? I want to take the gauge cluster from the 02 to have the miles match the engine. Should i have an issue or will this be an easy swap? The other thing is the 01 has a 15k old VP vs the 02 having a 80k or so old VP. Are the pumps the same with the two years? I would like to take the newer pump during the swap. Thanks

I may be wrong, but I think the miles are programmed into the PCM. So... if both trucks are manuals, and you change the ECM and PCMs, it may work. I *think* (ive never swapped years) that the sensors are the same on the 01-02 trucks.

I swapped my gauge cluster with one from another truck and it showed the miles the other truck had and not what my truck had on it. i would still think one of the computers would have to store the correct milage. I would have to agree that changing the milage on the truck is pobably illegal.

Tampering or Altering the odometer to decieve is illegal. Changing guage clusters as a repair is not. It would be nice if you documented the repair & stated the mileage on the original odometer & the beginning mileage for the used odometer... and engine swap... I have replaced gauges on vehicles before. The original odometer on my C30 was metric. If you later transfer / sell them there's a check box for mileage is incorrect.

I think as long as you recorded the mileage before the swap and what the new one says so you could go from there, that you would be fine. Every time you get it inspected they record the mileage and it would show up. They won't care but if someone says "show me the carfax" then it will show.. My F250 only has 5 digits on the odometer and I looked it up one day and the carfax mileages are all over the place.
