off and on power lose

Recommended Posts

the last two weeks i have been losing power that acts as if i am losing my chip power completely.i have great fuel pressure a new filter. I can throttle up slow and get no fueling smoke or power and then it will kick in and feels normal, boost seems to be normal ,close to 20,but no power. the only change i have made inoperation is adding some two cycle oil to the fuel for lube cause i had a injector that would stop working partly at idle. i have checked the chip connectors and they all seem tight. Could use some help figuring it out.

Time to pull the injectors and have them pop tested. Pop pressure is most likely getting to low in a injector at idle causing a pissy injector that doesn't seal. As for VP44, ECM or APPS there is nothing pointing towards those yet. If there is no error codes.

You tested the voltage with the key on? Have you tried disconnecting your Edge to make sure thats not giving you a problem? Don't just turn it off, completely disconnect it. Sounds like a malfunctioning programmer to me. Won't cost anything to try, at least.

Smoke switch installed? If so remove it. Is the MAP sensor hooked up to the Edge? If not hook it up.

Yes. Please do unplug the entire unit it could be a bad boost fooler in the Edge Comp causing this issue.

when i checked the voltage of the map connection it was not plugged into the ez got 4.97 from the orange wire and .1 from the other two. but the truck did run any different with the ez unhooked.

:duh: Test is invalid...

The MAP sensor has to remain plugged into the sensor to test the other lines for voltage. Since the +5 volt has to run into the MAP sensor resistor, bias against the ground lead to return out of the sensor with voltage to the ECM. So unplugging the MAP plug and probing the socket is null and void. This why I typically suggest live data tool to see what the ECM sees so you can figure out the problem.

I didn't see where you tried this, if you have I missed it, but try unplugging your MAP sensor completely and driving it. It will throw a code, but it should also put the truck into a field default setting for the reading. If the performance levels out and doesn't go up and down like you said previously I would say you have a bad sensor. The only other way I can see would be with a livedata device like Mike mentioned. I have had similar symptoms with my truck and a friend of mine also had the same symptoms and both of our trucks ended up having a bad sensor.
