This is the 3rd common rail I have built recently with this Cummins error. This is a late 2007 5.9 backed by a 6 speed manual. Notice the rod orientation upon dis-assembly. The rods are backwards. This engine only had 190k miles and had not been opened up on the bottom end since new. Engine failed due to broken rings on cylinders 1 and 4 caused by failed injectors. Truck is a 1 owner since new that knows complete history. I've also attached service instructions direct from Cummins Quickserve. Figured I would post for the Common Rail folks. How it is assembled now. View full Cummins article

Do the common rails have the needle roller bearing's on the pilot shaft? I am looking to get a 04 or a 05 and just thinking what I need to replace. A truck with 130k will need a fresh clutch if anything like my 01 was.

Just for information value. I know I buggered up the threads on the crossover tube getting one out. You can smooth out rough or marred threads on crossover tubes. At least on my 2006 Cummins the thread size of the crossover tube is 14mm x 1.5mm.

  9. Like I'm learning you might want to get a hold of the Dodge FSM and then look up all the ports used in the fuse panel and what size fuse goes where. I found a few with a larger fuse stuffed in the port. A few I found where missing a fuses completely which explains why some thing never worked right. Like I did with Thor I got the 2006 Fuse list and ran right down the list and made sure each port had a fuse that was hook up and tested good. Then I found the fuse I was chasing anyways for the tail lights. Next step would to be re-test against my RV when the snow stops again.

Hey gang... The 2006 Dodge I've got has a stock stereo and the input jack is broken. I'd love to hear what some of you are using for stereos in the 3rd gen body being a double DIN is typically used. I'm looking for a quality Bluetooth unit that can handle at least two mobile devices at once. Like the Kenwood in my 2002 allows @Wet Vetteand myself to go somewhere if either phone rings its hooked and goes through the stereo. DVD video is not a requirement. Backup camera if available I would take it.

  13. I just made up a fresh batch of transmission cooler thermostat delete kits, and they're ready to ship. I'm having trouble with the shipping module on my website, so it's best to call the shop to order one. Here is a link to the kits: https://dynamictransparts.com/dodge-transmission-parts-47re-48re-68rfe/dodge-transmission-parts/3rd-Gen-Thermostat-Delete-Kit

So, I finished the transfer case swap in my friend's 08 3500 MC this past weekend. Basically, the reason for it was I replaced the chain, gears, seals and bearings in it a year or so ago, due to what we thought was slippage of the chain. Problem disappeared for about 3 months, then returned. Only this time, it came back with a vengeance. What was actually occurring was the electronic shift motor was attempting to engage 4WD at whenever it felt like it. Last time, it was at about 70mph when it tried to switch to 4WD, all but grenading the tcase into dust. So I Got my hands on a really good priced NV271F (Yes, Ford). Ripped it apart, freshened the bearings, sea…

  18. Turbochargers while simple in design, can get very complex in theory. From deciding what compressor trim is desired, to what turbine housing to be used is confusing to most who enter the field of forced induction. This article will hopefully take away all the confusion in turbocharger selection. Terminology Before I can begin writing an article explaining turbochargers, terminology must be learned. Here is a list of the more commonly used turbocharger terms: Compressor - Essentially a fan that spins and compresses air within an enclosed area (compressor housing). In order to allow the air to compress and build pressure within the hou…

  20. What is an A/R ratio and how is it calculated?: The A/R in a relationship that is obtained when dividing the interior area of the turbine where the inner walls are found, through the turbine housing radio from the center to the tongue as the illustration indicates. A/R values are expressed as .35, .47, .68, .84, 1.00, 1.15, etc. A small A/R indicates a small interior volume in the small turbine and a large A/R indicates a greater volum…
