Since it was 10F this morning and going to be the same or colder tomorrow morning I figured I will get some statistics on how well a winter front works. I want to get mileage and time as to how long it takes to hit 190F. I will do a constant 55mph for these tests and be on the road within a minute of starting. Today was without a winter front going straight into 20-30mph headwinds at 10F. Although synthetic oil seemed to not do anything at 20+F, you will notice that it cranks slower now that the conventional oil I am running starts to get really thick, you can even see how long it takes for it to get oil pressure. So synthetic does have it's place in the colder…

Hey gang,I've got a question. Is there a professional way to seal up the lovely wind noise from the top of the doors? The pins look like they are okay but I've never changed them with 235k on the truck. I've thought about getting some foam weather stripping from the hardware store and sticking that on there, but wanted to see if there was something I'm missing.:shrug:Thanks,Winslow

Ok so my 98.5 has the overhead compass but i was wondering does it display the mileage? i have not been able to achieve that with it yet, if it does what is the combo of buttons to press to get this info? mine only has two buttons on it one on each side of the display. I know that white's truck does have the mileage feature but his truck is an 01 as well.

Is there a way to find out what gear ratio my truck's diff has? I know I could call a dealer with the VIN but I was wondering if there was any other way.

On my 2002 I made some Plexiglas fronts for the top two openings. Do you think that I should have made them for the bottom ones and covered them also.

  7. Alright Mike, not trying to prove you wrong but I want to figure this out.You say cold IAT drop MPG big time on yours. You say Winter Fuel drops it.So why is it that running winter fuel with no winter front whatsoever at 25F ambient at 70mph, do I get the same 21mpg (actually 21.54mpg) that I get on a 100F day? I get consistent mileage all year, summer or winter fuel, rain snow sleet or hail. I know everyone here seems to have this "it's winter fuel, so it's ok to see 2mpg loss" but why am I not seeing this loss! I am thinking if I could figure this out, I could help you all not get a loss either.

  8. 1999 3500 2WD with 4 wheel ABS Got an ABS warning light (along with a brake warning light). Rear sensor was replaced by previous owner - no fix. Took to dealer to run the diagnostics, results point to a R/H front ABS wheel sensor. Before I order the part (OEM MSRP = $200), I was wondering if there was a method to check the sensor with a meter or something. Is it possible that the sensor is just dirty with brake dust, or do the connectors get corroded? I guess I could compare the ohms resistance reading from the rt front with the value taken from left front. Any other tips or tricks would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe in St Louis --- Update to the previo…

I have a friend that just purchased an 01, the fuel gauge is off by about a quarter of a tank so he ran out of fuel. Ever since his fan switch only works on high. I have not tried to pull any codes off but his 'cel' is not lit. Any ideas where to start? Thanks, Jonathan.

I'm wanting to start changing my front springs soon and wondering if there's anything I should be aware of before I start, like how long does it take, any special tricks to doing it etc.

If you are looking for gauges for your Dodge Cummins truck, you need to decide what type that you want. Do you want mechanical or electronic. Both have their good and bad points. You are the one who needs to decide as to what type of gauges that you want. You can ask for opinions as to who likes theirs the best, yet you are the one purchasing the gauge set. The necessary gauges needed for a stock truck are: Fuel Pressure, EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature), Boost, and for Automatic Transmission owners, Trans. Temp. FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE A gauge that goes from 0 – 30 psi will do fine. Is using an electronic gauge, you need either a snubber hose and or a needle…

I had it with my dodge from one thing to another Where is our brake light switch ? is it at the pedal like most other trucks ? and else where ? and if some where else where and how easy to switch one out ?

  13. Started by jumpjg,

Sorry for the beginner question but I'm not having a lot of luck with the search feature. I'd like to install some gauges - fuel pressure, boost, & EGT. I understand best accuracy is achieved by selecting a gauge where the engine's normal operating range is in the middle of the gauge's range. But I don't know what is the engine's normal operating range for boost & EGT ('99 3500 2wd auto 4.10). The truck is stock now but I may boost things later for MPGs & towing an RV. Next mod after the gauges will be a decent aftermarket lift pump (100gph).As I recall, before the Turbo is where the probe should be installed. On my first gen that required drilling & tapp…

Hey gang, Okay a friend of mine just installed a set of used GS gauges I got in on a trade. He has the wires all hooked up and such, grounded to the battery and all. Well his fuel pressure gauge isn't working quite right. When he turns the key on, the other gauges sweep over and back down to zero. Well the FP sweeps up to 30 psi and stays there. Then when he starts the truck it drops to about 26ish psi, then once the truck starts, it goes up to about 33 psi which is the end of the gauge. My question is this: This there a way to test the sensor without just replacing it?? Fuel pressure doesn't drop with heavy throttle either and the truck doesn't appear to have any after…

Hey guys, the ABS light has been on on my '96 2wd for most of the summer. It has just RWAL. I pulled the sensor on the rear end and made sure it was clean (it was). I also made sure the connector was on good. Where else should I look?

  18. Started by jumpjg,

New member, new owner, first post. Picked up a '99 3500 quad yesterday. Been reading the owner's manual and it seems the truck may be equipped with the remote keyless entry system, but I have no transmitters. Reasons I believe the truck is equipped with the system is that the doors automatically locked shortly after pulling out of the parking lot, and the interior lights stay lit for aprox 30 seconds after the door is closed. The truck also has many other options like power windows, power seat with lumbar adj, overhead console with compass/trip computer, auto dimming mirror, etc., so RKE would seem like a logical option in this truck. I'd like to get a transmitter (or two…

I came across this and I think everyone should see it just in case some people are unaware of the effects of submerging their axle. I know a lot of people just worry about the engine sucking in water but the axle can get filled with mud/water as well. Not as catastrophic as the engine seizing but definitely something to be aware of if you happen to submerge the axle. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-powertrain/337867-what-your-diff-oil-should-not-look-like.html
