I did a quick search on the subject. Nobody seems to think the mod is worthy. Is that still the case. Payoff in fuel economy not realistic? Read so threads on other forums of guys using Ford Taurus fans on the cheap with reasonable success.

Hey guys, I didnt want to clog up my intro thread with my questions. Just want to get some clarification as this is my first Cummins. 1. My radiator is about half full of what looks like green coolant. Obviously I need to add more but can I just add green coolant from the parts store? Supposedly some the the Auto Zone coolants have the Cummins logo on the bottle, I will have to check. 2. I need to change my fuel filter, looks like it is on the drivers side of the engine correct? Does that cap unscrew and the filter just pull out? 3. Where can I find a fuse diagram as well as a wiring diagram. My fan for the climate control does not work, no matter what speed I turn to not…

thought crossed my mind after falling asleep in my truck trying to stay dry one night when camping.ended up letting the truck idle for 7 hours before i woke up and realized it :doh:then i got to thinking. has anyone done any research on how many gallons per hour these things use at stock idle speed (800~rpm)? what about with high idle engaged around 1200 rpm's? also is there any danger in idling these trucks for hours at a time at factory idle speed?

I know that this thread has been done to death, but i just came back from a weekend trip and thought i would post up my fuel mileage report.Approx. 300 miles each wayRunning south at 76mph with a pretty stiff head wind i averaged 17.22 miles per gallon at approx. 2200rpmheaded back north at 64mph with no wind to speak of i averaged 22.35 miles per gallon at approx. 1800rpmi am happy with these numbers but they can always improve! the speed is obviously a huge factor on the economy, but i would like to do injectors and larger exhaust in the near future. any thoughts or recommendations are always welcome.i would love to see some of you guys numbers on your rigs so post away…

The author of this article is a turbo engineer for Garrett. I'm submitting it because it is an informative read and therefore is beneficial to the community. Enjoy. Compressor Efficiency and More by Khiem Dinh Compressor efficiency is a term thrown around whenever people mention forced induction, but what does it really mean? How does it affect an engine's performance? And what role does air temperature play in all of this? The cool thing about thermodynamics is that we can explain effects with equations. Using basic compressor equations, we'll put some numbers to the affects of air temperature and compressor efficiency on co…

Alright so we all saw the youtube by now with the 2 gauges. Well that was a spearco intercooler... I was looking at a thread on CF and noticed a guy from diesel power mag said after stock boost numbers, the stock intercooler would start to fall on its face. Meaning anything over ~20psi. When they did their test they registered a 73F difference over ambient. They then swapped in a BD fancy intercooler and it maintained 10F over ambient max. This apparently made a 250F EGT difference. Now this was on a 1998 12 valve and one guy told me the VP44 trucks have intercoolers that flow 8% better, though I'm not sure. Still, testing needs to be done. Mike sees a good bit h…

#1 - I'm not an expert, and don't really have any personnel experience on the subject. #2 - This info is probably not going to be dead on or 100% true, but that's kinda gonna be the point of this thread. I want opinions voiced, and I want to be corrected if I'm wrong. Some of this info is old news to some of you, but I hope it could help some newbs that are wanting to upgrade injectors and/or turbo(s). First I'm going to post roughly how much horsepower a specific size 7 hole injector will add: (I use 7 hole, because it is the most common injector in a 24 valve - 6, 7, and 8 hole can be used on a 24V) 7x.0071 = Stock HO 7x.0075 = Stock SO 7x.0079 = RV275 7x.008 = +60HP/…

Just a random though as I was staring at a newer truck today. In the quest for mpg, newer trucks have bumpers and air dams that extend much closer to the ground. Has anyone ever experimented with something like this? It would be interesting to see the effects it would have on our trucks.

I know the cheap thing would be to straight pipe the stock exhaust. But I have a couple issues with noise. First is that I use my truck as a service vehicle in an upscale neighborhood and the other is hunting. Mike said in some post that you could hear his truck coming for a mile. Not good for hunting. Like typical, I want my desired outcome for the least amount of money. I wish to have better flow of air through the engine and have it quiet. Is there a way to go from my stock muffler to straight pipe by pulling a lever? I'd be willing to do it from outside the vehicle.

Alright guys, I had to get my 01 a new trans, so I went with the whole deal 3 disk TC Jam Pac valve body bla bla bla $4500!!! Got to say the stock tranny held up well even though my truck is 12600lbs. So with that said, Im thinking of adding a chip, get a little more out of the old girl. Nothing serious just a little more hp would be nice since the trans can hold it now. Ive added the S&B cold air and the AD100, so a chip is next. I have looked into the edge ez chip and want some input. Also the intake elbows, do they actually help or do anything? let me know, Thanks

So I recently came across a BD super b special turbo for cheap from a friend. It's 64 /71/14wg. I picked it up thinking I could use it on my 12 valve but I starting to think its going to be to big to really reach the goal I'm trying to achieve.my goals for my truck are : 450-480 HP, still keeping it as a daily driver and able to do some light towing (my boat, my car trailer and my dads 28ft enclosed trailer) and also maintaining at least 23-24 mpg average.right now what I have for my truck that's not installed is :3gsk spring #10 plate with boost elbow and all the mods listed in my sig. I also plan on getting a clutch soon like a valair or south end because I know as soon…

Anyone heard good from them? My new AD100 is squeaking loud enough and when it squeaks it looses fuel pressure but comes right back for a moment. I hope they treat me right. It's only got 7,000 miles on it. - - - Updated - - - They wanted to send me another pump but, they wanted my credit card number for shipping. I told them I don't have credit cards and would rather have my money back unless you can convince me you are building the pump like the old days when it was reliable and last longer than 7000 miles. That's when he hung up on me. Now this is a bunch of BS. AND THEY BARELY SPEAK ON THE PHONE... so you can't understand what they are saying…

Alright fellas, another 5th wheel trailer question. Ran to a local RV place to look at some trailers and see what me and the wife would consider living in while I work. Just went there with the intent to see some in person and see what we could get financed for. Took us out on the lot and saw a few we really would like. We agreed on one and used it as a "baseline" to see what we could get financed for. This is the trailer: http://www.rv007.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?veh=3011544 We got approved for financing for it. Thats not the problem. I explained to them that I was limited in how heavy I could tow something. The sales guy was like a genuine Larry the …
