As some of you know, I've been a general contractor for many years. Mostly working on country properties, farms, small ranches. It been really good contracting with good folks that understand the value of hard work. Lately I notice a new up and coming generation looking for guys like me that run a small operation, especially when they notice a particular job I did or project that appeals to them. I have one question.... What the hell is with all the rude attitudes? I really don't trust situations/ contracting with people that are short, don't have the time of day. It's strange to me at least. Comments appreciated....

Got back yesterday from Reno, NV. Was there for 4 days to see my nephew/God son get commissioned into the Army as a 2LT and then to see him graduate from UNR. Twas a good trip...............very hot and dry during the day, but cool and dry at night. Went to see Lake Tahoe on Friday...........beautiful. My nephew got commissioned with 8 others on Thursday. Of the 9 of them, 3 are going into the Army and the others into the Nevada National Guard. At the ceremony hearing what all these cadets have done and accomplished, I have a new hope for the future of our country. If all the young folks had these kids gumption and drive..........................well you know. …

Alright, so I may have an opportunity to acquire myself another truck. My current one may go to my in-laws and I will be able to take the liquidity from the sale and buy another cummins. Question is, given that I have such a large trailer, should I get a dually? My 3/4 ton SRW handles it, but how well compared to? I know I will NOT ever get another auto or short bed AGAIN. So, those are 2 stipulations. I have found numerous cummins with less than 100k miles on them and the price to boot, but still cannot decide between SRW or DRW! As I see it now, I do not plan on pulling the trailer much if at all. Originally my intent for the trailer is to stick it into a shop and k…

As some of you may know, I got really interested in the beekeeping thing. Been working harder than a one-legged man in an rear kicking contest. I made all my own equipment for the bees and have been working on the equipment every chance I got. I had to have a bare minimum ready for my bees before I received them. I got everything done except the top lids, but the bee place had a couple they let me borrow for the time being. I received two nucleus colonies from them and did not get them home until that evening. They had quite the transport to undergo and I know it ticked them off really well! I had to run a couple errands before I went back home, as the bees were about…

  6. Just want to surmise/ postulate a few things. With population explosion there is only so much money to go around. The continued borrowing/ printing money drives up prices, so the ones that want to pay cash for everything find it more difficult, yet to borrow money for a home does drive the economy and helps younger folks get started. So what can I say about that? If everyone had 1.5 million saved by the time they are 50/ 60, like Suzie Orman so strongly advises, prices would go thru the roof. Be thankful for the little people. The ones just barely making it... they help hold prices down. I am not thankful for excessive money hoarders... they reduce the…

So, apparantly the cummins bug has bit my In-laws, as they just brought one home! I was actually very disappointed in seeing this new truck. Last time they went out and got a truck, they came home with a 3/4 chevy 6.0l gasser. Before they brought that one home, I told them to take me along for consulting before buying. So when I saw this one in the driveway I was very frustrated. But, lo and behold, they told the lot they wanted to take it home for a little and have me look it over. They wanted a new truck because theirs is only getting 3k in trade in-value and the transmission is supposedly going out. Fuel mileage took a big dive. Started a thread on this issue a…

Well one small project (strip wallpaper and paint and replace window) turned into a big one (gutting the whole bathroom). Trying to strip the old wallpaper was a nightmare, as I would've had to skim coat the walls with mud to repair the divots from the scraper. The linoleum was stained from a small water leak from the shower stall and a mouse nest in the wall. The shower stall was rust stained from my soft water etc., etc.. I gonna re-use the toilet and the sink. So I have to put some new flooring down, rerock the walls, tape/mud them, replace the window, prime/paint, install new shower stall, etc., etc., etc.. A few pix.

Just an update, I have a job, definitely enjoying it. I started off as the shop guy for a local construction company, in a union shop. A friend of mine got me the job, so I went ahead and took it...The same day I took it, the other job I had applied for called me back- go figure. Worked at the construction company for about a month, but realized soon it was going to be a dead end job. No complaints about the company, but I wouldn't have gone anywhere. I ended up stopping back at the other company, and it turned out that they still really wanted me: made me an offer that same day. I'm now working as a technician on (for now) aerial lift equipment at a large Cat dealer…

  15. After watching the Zimmerman case in Fla.. and now a recent shooting in Mont, the 'stand your ground' laws are going to be tested to the max. What's YOUR State saying about your Right to Defend yourselves? After reading the comments section in various news feeds, (which really these days is a hoot in itself) There are a lot of people that don't understand basic human rights! apparently these same people need laws on every facet of their lives, or they wouldn't be able to tie their own shoes! http://www.cbsnews.com/news/stand-your-ground-law-gets-major-test-in-recent-shootings/ MY feelings on this is: Someone eith…

Thinking about buying these and getting my AC back up and running. Read enough here to believe I can do it. But lack the tools for the job. What do ya'll think? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C6LG3Q/ref=dra_a_cs_mr_hn_it_P1400_1000?tag=dradisplay-20 I am not looking into going into the ac buisiness, just using them on my vehicles.

Today is my Oldest Baby Boy's Birthday today!!!! My boy Shorty turned 16 today I remember waiting till a little past midnight at the barn with his Momma waiting on him to show his cute little self Even though Fancy was showing like she was going to drop him at any moment, she was willing to wait to get a little privacy... I had to get up @ 4 the next morning and go to work at the track. I stop...ped in before work to see is he had been born. Well as I arrive all is quiet except for Fancy's usual nicker of hello At the time I was boarding at someone's private residence and I didn't want to turn on the barn lights and wake anyone so, I walked in the stall in the dark, …

Been listening to the news with this HeartBleed bug out there and from what I seem to understand with limited knowledge, companies are racing to block the bug in it's track. It might be in over 60% of companies software, like the banks and credit cards system ? I have received many email from friends telling me about a free program called LastPass ( https://lastpass.com ) that states this will be the last password you'll ever need to remember and the program will prevent HeartBleed, and others like it. Has anyone tried this yet ? If so what did you run into for pros or cons ? Like or not ? I have downloaded and installed and for the couple of days of testin…
