May 16, 201510 yr Owner Hopefully their diodes are rated for that amperage. Just because it bigger doesn't mean its better. Remember the higher the amperage the more heat is produced on the diodes.
May 16, 201510 yr i did a redneck repair on my alternator, the contacts wore out so i pulled the little holder off and drilled the holes out bigger so i could slide it around to make them connect untill the new part showed up. works like a champ haha
September 13, 20159 yr Author INSTALLED! Pics in the daylight. Installation was a breeze. added 2GA cable directly to the passenger battery as MECHMANS recommendation/Instructions. Will keep updated
September 13, 20159 yr I put a 170A mechman on mine, I haven't changed the belt on it yet. It squeaks on shutdown but works fine sofar. I hope to pick one up in the next week or so. Did you buy one of their alternators?
September 13, 20159 yr In debate. I need to test my alt. again to see if it's causing my locking issues again.
September 13, 20159 yr Staff Hopefully their diodes are rated for that amperage. Just because it bigger doesn't mean its better. Remember the higher the amperage the more heat is produced on the diodes. This is why I disconnected my RV batteries from the truck alternator. Now only charge the RV by generator or grid power. I feel better about this all the way around not placing too much demand on my new N/D alt.
September 14, 20159 yr Owner Ummm... The stock trailer connector only has a 40 amp fuse so the charge rate is less than 40 amps.
September 18, 20159 yr OK, so I don't want to spend $400 on a mechman and I have a Bosch currently in my truck. Do I have to get a reman bosch or can I use a nippendenso? Are they wired different?
September 18, 20159 yr http://www.nationsstarteralternator.com/180-Amp-HP-High-Output-Alternator-for-2000-Dodge-p/13874-180-hp.htm Anyone heard of these guys?
September 18, 20159 yr Owner Nope... I would just hit the local NAPA pick a alternator have it bench test and go home for fraction of what both high performance alternators cost.
Ordered a 240 amp alternator from www.mechman.com
