Anyone know why I would have my power steering fluid overflowing? All was fine for 3 weeks without driving it (Driveway statue) and then one hot day it's coming out the cap. With truck sitting idle for 3 weeks, suddenly the fluid is at the top and overflowing.

Mine overflowed a couple of days ago too. I thought it was possibly the heat because it was 100 degrees that day. I know my power steering fluid is good because I've had to pull the vacuum pump off three times and the first time I flushed it really well, then I drained and filled the last two times.

I've always had a loose nut, just ask Mike he's had me at his house , like when I was playin' Choo choo out in his yard  :clap:

 

That's nothing wait till JAG1 asks, "What's this bolt for?" then proceeds to drop it right down the intercooler tube. :duh: That cost him a second beer at that rate. :tongue:

I'm going to throw a new one on when I get the motor back together... A member on CF was having almost the exact same issue as me, but his steering box was bad. Maybe that's my issue too?? :doh:

OOPS! I deleted that last post you quoted Mike. Sheesh! Been running all directions lately. Econ is getting overheated again so watch out everyone.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago.  Tried to pull away from the house and had no power brakes or steering.  Shut it down, restarted and still no power.  Inspected my belt and all pullies were spinning with no squeals.  Tried to pull it forward a few feet (closer to the driveway and tools) when power brakes and steering returned.  Shut her down and noticed my PS reservior had overflowed.  Replaced the fluid and have had no issues since.  Any thoughts?

Maybe something stuck in a line?? You should do a fluid flush and change.

I did mine a couple months ago, it was overfilling due to bad seals, I replaced PS pump and did vac seals while I was at it, No more over running out the cap. As for flushing I disconnected line at the hydro boost because it was easy to get to, started truck and had my son go back and forth with steering wheel while I dumped new PS fluid until it came out clean. It cost me two to three quarts of fluid but it was easy and effective

I just got a tricle when running steering wheel back and forth. When I started it up and placed my foot on the brake that's when it really started pumping out.

Hope that was the right way because I did it from the power booster and boy did it pump out.

I'll have to look at which hose I'm pulling off my pump but I always got flow of fluid start starting the engine. I'm due to change mine so I could get out there and get it done...

DID YOU RUN ENGINE WHILE DOING THIS OR IS IT NECESSARY, WHICH LINE DID YOU TAKE LOOSE FROM HYDRO BOOST??

DAG NABBET......... :doh:  :doh: ..ThIS IS what that FINE OIL MIST IS I SEEN UNDER TRUCK, DRIPPING OFF OILPAN BOLTS AND A MIST RESIDUE ALL OVER PAN AND COOLER LINES

I seen it while working on trans other night,,i noticed the mist was on the top of P/S  Thought it was a fuel leak at first

I Did the VACUUM SEAL KIT" ,When i had my injection pump off, bout 3-years ago, i CHECKED IT OTHER night and its dry.

Typically I run the engine for short spans of time to flush the steering gear box and the hydro boost out of old fluid. But I normally pull the line from the back of the power steering pump and cap the pump nipple to keep fluid in the pump. Then route the return line to a waste bucket. Fire up the engine. Then while it running I bump the steering wheel left to right to open the power valve. This only takes a few seconds to pump out. So shut down will happen rather fast. Then reload and tab the brakes on the next run this flushes the hydro boost out. The I hook back up the return line and re-fill. Typically cost about 3-4 quarts of fluid to get it flushed out.

Thanks,,, looks like I'm going to be doing it soon, when i fix or replace P/S Pump etc... where does this pressure come from that overflows the P/S pump??????
