The time has come to produce the Mopar1973Man High Idle & MPG fooler switches again.

Posted

Well Gang,

The Board of Directors on the Mopar1973Man.com has decided that we need to produce some new High Idle Switches for the 2nd gen 24V Cummins.  We have spent a considerable amount of time designing a Brand New High Idle / MPG fooler Switch.

We have learned from the last switch design and have made significant improvements.  The New High Idle / MPG Fooler switch will be the same price as before, but it will be more robust and modular to allow for easier install.

We have decided to only offer a "Install Anywhere  Kit" rather than a gauge mount or Cubby Mount.  You will nly have to drill one 1/4" hole to allow for the fitment of the switch.

Some teaser pictures.

We are making 50 switches to start then another run of 50 after that.  You can order them from The Mopar1973Man.com Store I expect to have them ready to ship within a 6 week time.

All high idle sales will be here on the site for here on out. We will be the producers, vendors and the support team rolled into one...

  • I finally installed my high idle switch today.  I put in in the overhead console.  The cable that comes with the switch is just a little too short.  I ordered a 12" extension from Amazon and I was abl

Cool,

Is there a recommended place to put it? I kind of like the cubby hole location, just because it's out of the way, but if there's a 'better' place, i'm all for it.

I'm going for the cubby. I'll have to cut my own piece out of plastic or something.....

Laser should work pretty well...

I am gonna put mine in the knee kick panel area on the left hand side.

Awesome, would you guys mind posting pics of the install? Trying to brainstorm some ideas here so anything helps!

Do you have any drawings or patterns from the cubby hole pocket from when you offered the plate with the switch? I would like to mount there.

that's the best we have.  the faceplate will need some standoff's to make it look flush.

Thanks, that will go along way to make an easy install.

Well I got my order placed so I'm excited to get it! I'm not sure I'm even in a cold enough climate to really justify using it, but it'll definitely help warm up the truck quicker!

After looking at the instruction manual, it makes my earlier question a little silly (doh!) but I think I'm going to install where it mentions.

has anyone tested the difference in warm up with 3 cylinder vs normal high idle? will be going back to a quadzilla soon and wondering if I should just order one of these just for the 3 cylinder...

On 3 cylinder mode and exhaust brake I can go from -25*F to 170*F in under 10 minutes. Hard pressed to do in 6 cylinder mode. Also my high idle is not an APPS kicker like quadzilla.

Yep,

Used to use the quad high idle until I got the switch.  3 cyl works 5x better than the typical high idle.

Im not very mechanical and recently due to oil prices out of a good paying job... my question... could i install this thing myself?

Thanks

Yes,

download the install manual and look it over.  all you need to do is run the 8 pin connector through the firewall into the cab, drill 1 hole where you want to install it.  Then mount the switch through the hole, tighten the lock nut,  and there you go.

plugs on the engine side is very easy, Unplug ect connection, plug switch harness into ect sensor, plug OEM harness into the other leg of the switch harness.

Same goes for the IAT.

So as of now, I'm not 100% sure I have the most up to date ECM flash so my plan was to just install and see if it worked. Is that ok? Or should I just double check and make sure it's flashed properly? I definitely don't want to damage anything out of sheer laziness!

Whoops! double post!

Install and try,

the switch does nothing other than define the temp the ecm see's.  the ecm will either go into high idle or not.

No different than starting the truck in the cold.

Cool, that's what I figured. I'll give it a shot! I was already surprised by the fact that the truck actually had the block heater chord (its a 2wd central California truck, go figure) so maybe it'd be flashed!

Every truck I have ever seen came with a block heater....

If not hopefully you can find a good dealer!

Nick you have a PM

Yea the block heater wasn't a surprise, just the fact it actually had the cable attached! lol
