You're gonna have to re-explain what you are trying to solve, I am a little lost.

To fix that you're going to have to remove the tappet cover, which requires removing the VP44.

From what I've seen, it's usually not a dirty surface that causes a leak, but rather a slight bend in the tappet cover. That slight bend won't keep enough pressure on the gasket and allow oil to seep by.

Just got to get your "head" wrapped around it. To the op, you have take it back off and see what's going on. Replaced mine a little over 2 years ago and getting some leakage on it. Along with all the others I have. No rust under my truck.

It's a small leak but yes it's the tappet cover , and now my transmission line is leaking the one coming off the round cylinder under exhaust manifold

I just ran into the same problem with my tappet cover. The only way we could get it to seal up properly is using some RTV gasket maker with the new gasket. Luckily the guy that did my engine swap for me "took responsiblity" for the leaky cover. He got it all fixed up for me. I think he used the "right stuff gasket maker". I have a couple thousand miles on it now and all is dry.
