Truck started acting up last weekend and had codes for APPS. I reset the APPS, which is about a year old Timbo APPS, and ran fine. This evening coming home from work truck was cutting out(dead pedal) Cruise control wouldn't even work and kept kicking off on its own. Got it home thankfully and got codes of 0562, 0575, 0342, 0112, 1488, 0606, 1295, 0237. Have Edge JWA truck is 2001 with 6spd and 273k on clock. Am I lookin and a new ECM? Any suggestions or where to start.

  • Sounds like an ECM to me, but I would go through this first.    Return the truck back to stock electrically, pull out the edge etc.   Get some dielectric grease and clean and apply

Test the alternator for excessive AC noise. The alternator is the first step. You might get away without messing with the ECM. More important to clean the battery terminals. The grounds under the hood

  • You are not far off from where mine was when the ECM went. Had a boat load of codes except the 606 ECM code. As pricey as they are all of the above is the way to go to be sure. I would start saving up

Get some dielectric grease and clean and apply EVERY plug under the hood with it.  Cycle every plug a few times to ensure good connections.

Clean EVERY ground connection in the engine bay.

Haven't check alternator yet. Battery terminals are clean. Also when driving home the check gauges light came on and coolant temp spiked all other gauges were reading normal

Yeah it's looking like it going to check alternator tomorrow and check some other things when it's light out

I definitely had that one. Start the engine cold and it would spike out very quickly most times.

Just started doing that and it was within 5 minutes of leaving work this evening

Well I checked alternator seems to be within specs. After leaving batteries disconnected all night and removing the edge jwa there's no CEL on anymore. Letting it warm up and take a drive and see what happens. Could the edge have something to do with the issues?

What do you mean by within specs?  Did you just check the vDC?  Did you also check for vAC?

Disconnecting the batteries does NOT reset codes nor does it fix any problems. All error codes are held for 40 warm up cycles then erased if there is no future codes in the 40 warm up cycles.

Didn't even make it out of driveway CEL came on cruise indicator was coming off and on, on its own and dead pedal. Safe to assume the ECM is shot?

Have you checked your codes again?

Yes same as last night, called dealer for ECM he said they don't carry it and says it's not available through them.

Yep that are exactly 0 new ecms out there.  You need to get one rebuilt or get one out of a running truck.

I would suggest the rebuild route but ensure you get a good warranty.

Does Cummins not have them anymore? That is where mine came from and it was a reman.
