I should get my 01 running this weekend.  It's been sitting 11 months without any fuel and jacked up.  (I was in process of upgrading fuel system and other things in life got in the way)    Fuel was bought couple months before I perked it.  So fuel (25 gallons) is over 1 year old and was stored in 5 gallon plastic cans in car port.  And I also changed fuel tanks.  Installing an Air Dog 100 and a carter pump as a back up, fuel has been cycled through filters probably 2 or 3 times.  The "new to me" fuel tank not as clean as my old one (but no more sump and I'll never have one again) 

 

Because "new" tank still has stuff in it even after getting as clean as I could.

 

Thinking about changing filters at 3k and 6k then every 5k there after.  

 

Beyond priming fuel, anything special I should do?  

 

And a Fuel question...

 

Would you use the existing fuel or

 

mix fuel maybe 50-50 with fresh new fuel or

 

buy new fuel.

I think fuel would be fine. Diesel has a pretty good shelf life. If you have any doubt pour some in a jar and see what if anything strange settles out of it. As far as the filters and the fuel, I might change them out early if I saw any pressure drop. It cant hurt to change them out early however, for peace of mind. You could open them up and have a good look at them.

Take a hand full of gravel and toss it in the tank and shake it around. This should help remove some of the junk on the tank.

 

The fuel is fine use it. I've got a 55 gallon drum full of fuel and it's like 7 years old I'll still use it.

There is this stuff someone gave me a while back and I never used it.

I was always told if storing a motor, before shutdown reve it up a bit so oil splashes everywhere and turn key off right of way after, assuming egts are not high. 

As long as it's not bio you had for a year you probably be fine.

I wouldn't use it either... Like all my gasoline engine I run the fuel system dry and let it die out. Diesel as long as the vehicle is out of the weather you can leave it loaded with fuel with no issues. If being stored in the weather with extreme cold and heat I would be more after changing all fluids out including the fuel being that the tank breathes and it will draw in moisture. Just like the axles, transfer case, and transmission will.

Most likely. No way will rocks in the bottom are going to do much good.
