Another Cummins with a plugged radiator. Funny part was the front was plugged with mud. The fan side was plugged with oil from the breather. The radiator needed a good rinsing the hit with purple degreaser and soak a bit then rinse it off. It looked nearly new afterward. I yanked the old breather bottle off and install a Mopar1973Man Crankcase vent. 

That looks pretty nasty.  I can only imagine how the other side looked.

 

I just cleaned my breather for the first time ever & the radiator is as clean as can be.

Be surprised... Pull that radiator out I bet the bottom edge is getting rather nasty. My truck will be due for this again soon to pull the radiator out and power wash the face off again. Even though I don't get the oil I do get the caked mud. Between being on the local dirt roads in the winter time and just splashing the mud on the radiator and the heat of the coolant drying the mud in place. 

 

Just like @Taz found out on his truck the radiator was pack on the lower edge with nothing but caked mud from the offroad travels he does into the back country. 

That's what mine looked like last year. Would heat up like crazy while towing. Like an idiot, I decided to put in a 180° thermostat before I decided to pull the rad and check / clean it out. I think the truck would be happier around 190, but now it runs around 181-185 on the highway. Oh well.

Better off switching back to the 190*F. I'm going to install a 200*F thermostat this fall. Yes the 6.7L thermostat will fit and 200*F is available. 

guy I was camping with this weekend had overheating issues on the way up, we took a peak and sure enough the front of the radiator was plugged.  We did a quick clean with a brush, some electrical tape, and  a 18" 3/8" extension.

Sad part is you'll still need to wash it out with the radiator is out to get it clean up right...

He's gonna pull it out and have it dipped, but he needed to be able to pull the trailer home without stopping every 1/4 mile to let it cool off haha.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some stuff down there.  I look every time I open the hood with a good light & swear I can see the bottom of the coils all nice & clean.  Of course I've been wrong before but just a couple times.

I've seen the bottom 5 inches of my radiator caked shut from mud. The only way you can clean that out is to pull the radiator out and clean it with a garden hose or power washer.
