Well I’m thinking about doin a turbo swap. I would like to have around 400 450 hp. I will be purchasing a qaud v2 before too long. I’m thinking I will do injectors too. What size would you do with the HE351 and v2? And now for the turbo... do I want the variable geometry or the cw model? I would also like an exhaust brake which I believe is built into these turbos? Has anyone else done this swap? What was your experience? Anyone please chip in with questions comments or concerns.

Mods should be in signature. Fass 150 is alsonin the books before long!

And just to clarify the truck is running well now. No issues besides the fact it snowed 6 inches yesterday and I hit the ditch! Took out the neighbors mailbox with deer guard!  Thanks guys!!

  • The oil feed comes from the filter housing. The drain goes into the pan at the bottom of the block.    Maybe the white box is aftermarket? Go genuine Holset.

  • Are you looking for a tow tune at 400-450 or a street tune at 400-450 and 350-375 for towing?   The reason I ask is the HE351CW is about a 350-375 rwhp turbo for towing at altitude and reaso

Anyone should be able to do a rebuild, just take your time and pay attention to how it comes apart.

So where do you spend near 1k on a rebuild?

Sorry if I come up with a few dumb questions! Lol

you wont spent 1k on a rebuild you will spend ~$100 an a few hours.

If you have the exhaust side machined out and replace the turbine well you will be getting close to 1k after the rebuild.

Stock clutch while towing is prob good to ~250 whp , 500 wft/lb

~65hp over stock before the clutch is at it's limits.  Some have better luck, but you are pushing it

Another few questions... will everything from

the hx35 switch over to the He351cw besides the piping and wastegate of course...

And how will I go about fabricating the bracket?

Would it be unwise to get only nozzles for

my injectors being they are stock body’s with 127k miles?

Also what is invlolved I’m clocking the turbo?

I read on cf that if you do not clock the turbo you won’t have to fab a bracket?

What do you think about doing 125 injectors and a can bus box like the qaud xzt? Smoke? Issues? With 7x 0.10s that would put me about 450... seems a little more safe for me.

that setup would get you to ~400 hp it would run fine.  you will have smoke issues as the xzt cannot control the fueling offidle like the adr box can.  You can manage that via using your right foot smartly.

My thought is too stick with the v2 and leave the wiretap off.

I was reading at cummins forum and came across a thread about this.  I read that if you don’t clock the turbo then you won’t have to fab a waste gate holder. What do you know about that?

If you dont clock the turbo you run into other issues.  Remember the 3rd gens mount the turbo differently, so unless you use a 3rd gen manifold you will have oil drain issues if you dont clock the manifold.  You will also have to fab up a charge pipe from the turbo to the i intercooler if you dont clock the turbo.

the cw is a 60/60/9 I believe.

Then you bet I’m gonna clock it. Can I send you the pics and video of the turbo I’m looking at and get your opinion?

Curious what the measurements of a HE351 wheel wise?

60x86 compressor wheel (same as the 7 blade super 40 wheel)

65x58 CW 12 blade turbine wheel (often called a 68x60 by Holset, thou I don’t know why)

70x60 VE 12 blade turbine wheel

Holset calls the CW a 60/60/9, but it measures a 60/58/9

Would it be necessary to get full injectors or could I get just nozzles toninstall on my original bodies?

Nozzles are a solution if you have the ability to get the set of injectors pop tested afterwards to set pop pressures to be the same.  Most find it easier to just buy full injectors that are pop tested as a set.
