Wow! What a PITA! The salt has really taken a toll on the old truck. Now the adjustment nut is a 13mm nut and typically able to loosen with 13mm and vise grips holding the stud at the curl. Not this time nearly seized up tight with rust. Without damaging the stud I shot it with PB blaster and started working the nut back and forth slowly and reapply PB blaster. Then went and grabbed an 8mm x 1.25 die and ran the die right up against the nut to clean the threads of rust. Then tighten the nut just a wee-bit more and chased right up to again. Then back the die off and the nut came off with my fingers. Ok. So the two clips that are provided in the kit the one that looks like the factory clip is too small for the lead beads won't fit but the U shaped one works fine. Reset my pedal to the fully up position and reassembled the cable as typical. The fun part is with the threads clean it was easy to adjust the nut just by finger practically. I added another turn by the wrench to take up a bit more slack but I've got a working parking brake again.

Now the new clip to replace the broken stock one.

All that work for a $5 part, figures.  What's it like to not have the E brake with a standard?  I assume the tranny holds good in gear.

It sucks being I'm so used to leaving the engine in neutral and the Quadzilla is still cooling the turbo when I walk away. So now I've got to hold it with the brake shut it off with the key. Then tap the throttle to shut down the engine. Then place it in 1st gear and lock up.

Typically yes, but they still can roll with a trailer attached.

Well maintained e-brakes and make sure it's in gear or your uncle almost loses his truck!

She did not set the brake and doown them drive way and into the valley. Can't believe it did not hit a tree, just parked itself.

I've had my previous 1972 Dodge Power wagon do the same thing. The parking brake was worn so at some point it popped and rolled to the end the slope and rest up against the neighbor's fence. I started carrying blocks of wood and chunks of firewood for the truck.

@Dieselfuture that birch, an aspen by the fire pit and of course the giant "parking" rock were the only things it hit. It has a strap on it hooked to his Cherokee because it was a bit tipsy. We were just thankful no one was hurt. It was about 45 minutes after he parked it that it rolled.

Once I parked my car in front of the garage which was downhill, came out in the morning and half the car was in a garage, 2 bottom panels were broken. Had it in gear but forgot parking brake, compression was weak I guess  somehow it had enough force to do that in gear. It's ether that or someone borrowed it.
