Hey guys, I figured I'd post to see what you all thought. At completely stock power or with the edge comp all the way up, stock injectors and turbo or aftermarket, it doesn't matter, the truck will die after a hard pull if you take your foot off the pedal. It won't drop back to idle like it should. If you keep your foot on the pedal just a little bit for a couple seconds, it recovers and all is well. It sounds like it's running out of fuel. The airdog never drops below 12psi. The vp has about 3000k on it. It did it with the old vp too. I'd like to understand why if possible.

Thanks.

If you got a dealer near you may try to have the ECM reflashed to see if that helps. Typically this a Smarty thing where people see P0602 error codes because the Smarty alters the ECM information. Sin

  • The hypertech and superchips will produce the P0602 as well. You may have an issue with the edge box based on what faults are there.

  • THE FIX FOR THIS POST IS HERE!!    The issue was a corrupted ECM.  Autocomputer specialist in Florida did a great job flashing it and it resolved ALL issues.  I had a p602 code which accordi

Personally, I think you are being just a bit paranoid.

Tach need may bounce because of the signal. So if the cluster gets a message that RPM is 810 RPM this second then next second its 790 RPM now the stepper motor in the tech is going to step down. Then if it rises again then it will step back up again. Mine does the same thing but I don't sweat it. Quadzilla tach can jump 10-20 RPM in one second causing the jump.

Remember the Smarty will not program the tire size permanently. So when you return to stock the tire setting is lost. This is why I suggested the dealer. Then it can be permanent.

Thanks for explaining that a little bit better, and yes I tend to overthink stuff.

So I went ahead and sent my donor ECM to https://autocomputerspecialist.com   to flush it so I can use it on my truck. I have my reasons for why I need 2 ECMs. When speaking with them on the phone  (Bob and Dee) very nice and helpful. I was further explained that they are one of few that are allowed to reprogram ECM, PCM etc. To work on different vehicles. I also mentioned  mopar1973man.com site and how latly few members here had good experience with them. They said that they also refer a lot of people to this site for abundance of information on Cummins vehicles and that @Mopar1973Man him self has spoke with them :thumb1:. Another thing I found out is that they can only enable 3/6cyl high idle  (cold idle) on automatics and not manual  so I guess I'll still need a smarty to activate mine, on a good side I gave them number on the radiator support sticker, where it said my ECM been flashed and it turns out to be latest flash.

Bottom line is for $150 plus I paid $18 in shipping to them I'll have a spear ECM that couldn't been done at dealer. This is their sale price. They actually have reman ECMs right now for $700 programmed to your vehicle, all you need is send your core back. Also they informed me not all ECMs can be flashed to work on all trucks, so they recommend calling them first and given them all the info before sending anything in. Unless you just sending yours for a repair, then you fill out some questions/info and you're good. I got lucky and my truck built date is 10-01 and donor was 07-01 even 3 mouths apart software is different, but for testing purposes they said I could plug it in and at least start the truck, but was not recommended to drive loke that.

@Dieselfuture you can get a programmer from hypertech that will enable you to change tire size. I have one and check it with gps.  As my tires wear down I can adjust the size.  All it does is tire size and gear ratio. It's about $200. The nice thing about having it is if you decide to change tire size you can save cash by not having to go to dealer.
