I am fixing to replace my tappet cover gasket as it has decided it wants to leak quite a bit. Before it was a 1 maybe 2 drops on the ground total and now the side of my block is black and it leaves a bigger puddle of oil than what i would like too on the ground. Not very much still and oil level is checked to make sure its safe! But, I want to know if I can purchase this 12v tappet cover off ebay and bolt it right up with a new gasket? Or will it not work? I Want the extra vent and c ant jar loose of $300 for a billet one.

My version of cheap is $5 not 25 haha. but okay ill get a new gasket at the parts store.

  • If the gasket was not painted and black in color, it's a good possibility it was the OEM gasket.  Would also recommend a replacement.

Yes, the 12V tappet cover will bolt right up.  Works great.

specific part number I need? this ebay seller has 3 that all seem too have different number. and do i then need a gasket for a specific year 12v or will the 24v gasket work aswell

Different part #'s could be due to different industrial applications. As long as the breather is a square in the back-most part of the cover, it should work fine. A 24v tappet gasket will work.

3911821 is stamped on this 12v tappet cover. It looks to be painted black and has red fade on the inside of the cover. I hope the black isnt covering up bad rust on 1 side of the cover.

Link?  I'm betting it was from an industrial application and then painted black to match some guy's truck.

I would do the first link since they're all the same price and it looks the best.  IIRC it's 3/4" hose for the breather

Would still do the first link from the group you posted.

I got the tappet cover in yesterday. It appears to have been off an industrial motor as it has remnants of red on inside of cover. the seller shipped it with a gasket and painted it black. Should i use the gasket he supplied or order another one? The gasket was already on the tappet cover so i dont know what brand. seems to be some kind of rubber.

As cheap as they are I think I would put a new one on for peace of mind.

A Fel pro is only $15 and a Mahle is less than $10 on rock auto. Of course if you need it today that would rule them. But if you have time there are probably more to be found on the interweb.

he used the stock bolts and this gasket as "masking" cause i can pull the gasket off and there is a silver ring where the gasket set. and the sides of the gasket are a dull black and the top is shiny black.
