I want to do a website shake-up. I've got a wild idea to make the reputation points mean something for the other members. I want to take the current reputation scores of everyone and zero them out. Then change up the reputation system to go positive and negative both. This way if you give out good info and people thank you or like your post then you gain score. If you just were lazy and half-baked your answer or just poor info then a person can give you Sad smiley and be a negative score. This would give better information to the public of whose information is on cue. 

 

Right now the website is just strict positive rank thing. I don't think that is fair or a right measurement. The changeup would show the up's and down's of people answer and provide better information to the noobies that come into the website. 

Is it possible to turn the heart into a thumbs up or something less heart-like?

I can add as many icons as I want to that list. Then make them positive or negative rep points...

 

 

What if different icons had different weights to them?  Like the standard 'like' would be 1 point, and used for anything funny or for some image that people like.  Then 'thanks' could be worth 2 points and used for helpful information or whatnot.  Would it be easy to add some kind of status bar so people could glance at someone 'stats' to see what their point distribution is?

You already have the Rep point on your postbit. Just above your post number.

No I mean like a distribution to show how many of each weight a person has. Like a person with a bunch of ‘thanks’ responses would theoretically provide accurate, relevant data for example, and someone just glancing at that user would know that user is probably a reliable source of info.

So maybe just modify that list or add a new one with the system @trreed is suggesting and make it so it’ll show a break down of likes/thanks/lol’s whatever so when someone went to check a posters score just like they could currently check those reputation points, they could see how much of each rating they’ve received.

Have it show in the members profile if nothing else. Might be to much to put under their avatar.

No such mod exist on the IPS website I did some digging but no luck.

I voted to change to Mopar1973Mans idea but I wish I could reverse that after everyone’s posts. I would agree with y’all that there shouldn’t be any negative on the forum. 

Well in leau of showing a distribution, could we show the reputation tags below the avatar?  I'm stuck on the quick glance idea.

Problem is it only stored as a single number. Total reputation. There is no count of total Thanks, Likes, Laugh, and Sad. This why this mod doesn't exist. As you can see it only stores the total count of all positive or negative total. That's all.

I get that.  There really isn't a good way to do it.  I still like the different weights idea, but it'd be nice to show how reputable a user may be.  Time to find a developer!
