I have an 01 24valve after having the truck sit up for a little more then a year for major upgrades and front end repairs. I filled the tank for the first time and changed both fuel filters on my fast flow setup. At idle the truck runs perfect once a load is put on the engine it starts to show signs of a miss fire. Could the be because of a clogged fule filter? If so, i used the correct size socket on factory filter housing to check and replace if need fuel filter but the socket continues to round off. Is there a trick to remove the filter housing top without permanent damage? Also no codes shown on snap-on scan tool.

Need to know some things...

Fuel pressure - Idle, cruising at highway and WOT at highway.

AC voltage from the alternator

Use a 6 sided socket this won't happen. 12 sided sockets tend to only grab the outer points.

I always go factory specs of 25 ft. pounds to tighten the cap. Making sure O ring is clean, I rub a bit of oil around it as well to help with removal the next time with six sided socket.

Actually I just seat the filter cap nothing more.

Same here. Just snug it down.

6 sided deep snap-on impact socket is what i used and it still rounded off.

Is it 1 1/8"? I think it is actually 29mm. Maybe the 29mm will fit slightly tighter? Take a short bolt slightly larger than the hole in the center of the hex and drive it in. That might help stabilize the soft plastic hex from distortion as you turn it.

I used to do that, but one occasion I couldn't get the truck to hold prime. Was strange because after new set of filters I'd prime it just fine, but three times all fuel drained back to the tank right after shut down. I finally traced it to the cap not tight enough, being that it is plastic, I was afraid of tightening too much. It says right on it though to go to 25 ft. pounds and I also go with a little oil on the O ring.

Nothing wrong with that way. I have just not had that problem. My snug is most likely 25+ ft pounds. It does not take a lot to reach that number.
