So I was doing some checking on my boost pressure and was see what the turbo would produce. I’m producing around 43lbs according to the manual gauge and 37 acorrding to the quad at wot. I then clamped the waste gate line and there was no increase. The turbo is maybe a month old now. So my questions are, with the stock injectors is that all I’m going to see if I’m not put out enough fuel? My next question is by crimping the waste gate off shouldnt I see more boost? I talked with bd diesel today and the guy said that with the turbo I have the optimal operating range is is 37-45 lbs. last question for now is, is there something wrong with the turbo if I can’t produce any more boost with waste gate line crimped? I have test for leaks and everything is good. Let me know what your guys thoughts are.

If the boost is the same with the line pinch and not pinched then the WG is likely set higher than 43 and that's all the boost you're going to get with the fuel you have.

I don't get anywhere close to the WG setting on my turbo as it doesn't need to drive that hard. Boost is simply a measure of restriction, so you can have lower boost and more airflow depending on the flow thru the head. The turbo will have an effect on this. I run about 6 psi less boost with this turbo than I did with the stock one, and that's with about 50-75 more rwhp. Heck, I run less boost (28) than stock (32) with 150 more rwhp and cooler EGTs (some airflow and some timing).

So don't get hungup on the boost number, but rather does it smoke WOT or run too high of EGT

Very valid points. :iagree:

It not so much Quadzilla limit but the MAP sensor limits and ECM. MAP sensor is pretty accurate up to about 20 PSI after that the number skew and vary from vehicle to vehicle. Boost should be measured from an external gauge. Even Edge Juice has this same problem.

Correct, more a limitation of OBDII and the sensor/ECM. The quad just reads those signals.

In true OBDII reading the max MAP sensor limit is 37 psi, which is 37 psia on 3rd gens, or 23 psig at sea level. So on OBDII readings the max boost is 23psig.

At least with the Quadzilla and Edge Juice is a limitation of the CANBus, MAP sensor, and ECM.

OBDII port is not used at all in Quadzilla case. Totally different network. Like another one is Coolant temp is limited to 204*F and then it rolls over -40*F. Again this is a CANBus limit but now on the OBDII port the coolant report totally normal values.

The 98-00 maps are good to 55 psi normally, the 01/02 maps read to ~42-46 psi.

The quad reads map values from the sensor and the ecm across the unhood j1939 plug.

as to the issue of the OP.  Stock injectors likely dont have the fuel to push the turbo any harder.  Not that you need to anyways.  crimping hte wastegate may or may not have any effect.  If you dont have the fuel to spin the turbo faster then the wastegate crimp wont do squat.

I dont see that you have any issues, but I would be looking at injectors in the future so you aren't having to drive the injectors and pump so hard to make your goals.

Ok thanks everyone  I kinda had a feeling it was the map where the truck is actually making 43 pounds. the way I have the tune set it just puffs a some smoke for maybe two seconds in between shifting gears then clears up at wot. So with the egts if I push the truck wot balls to the way with the tune all the way it hits 1200. pulling an 05 expedition on a 24’ dove tail trailer going 65 with the tune on 3 I get 875-1000 depending on hills. Regular driving to work or in town I see any where from 350 to 780 regularly (800 maybe higher because people don’t know how to drive).  @me78569 I plan on injectors soon and I have in the mail a new map sensor coming from Cummins since may work gets a decent deal through them. The hole reason I’m pushing the truck now it to pretty must get numbers so I have them for future references. Also to to see what is needed to meet my hp goal there’s a local shop that allows runs on the dyno for 50 that the only reason I’m pushing it.

My isspro guage and quad are with in 1 psi to 50 psi boost

My MM3 plugs in under-hood as well and with that attachment I got a whole bunch of data that isn't available thru the OBD port and it's kinda nice... in a nerdy way :-)

The nerd flows strong with us lolol.

My old truck has arduinos hanging off of the various busses.   Dont kick anything or the truck might shut off hahaha

Ok I can’t seem to find the topic of how to import tunes or down load the tunes from here when they are android based and I have the iPhone Can some one point me in the right direction?

Well the injectors just got ordered I went with the 7x.009 sac from DAP. Can’t wait to get those in
