I know the good Cummins thermostat is expensive..... Maybe not

 

What Brand is a good reliable  thermostat . genos sells the Gates -33915

    The standard in stock Napa thermostat is Motorad for the 180 or 190. They offer a 190 Safe-T-Stat special order, it is the fail safe type. They also offer a stainless steel one, special order.

    Anyone that works on their own vehicle knows this. My point is, oem has different specs than the aftermarket, they will fit and work. Aftermarket will usually fit and might work.

Mine is a Gates 33956 180° thermostat. Just for fun yesterday I took a screen capture video of the IQuad app on my short 5km drive home. My coolant warmed up to 183, cooled to 177, and settled around 179 for most of the drive, with the odd cycle from 177 to 181. I expect a wilder swing when we hit -30° temperatures in winter.

Has anyone tried the Motorad 7426190 fail safe thermostat it is 190 degree thermostat but depending upon the quality of it, I like the idea of a fail safe thermostat that fails in the open position.

I've had good luck with Motorad Failsafe thermostats in other vehicles. Haven't had one actually fail yet. Just installed one in my truck, have not put any miles on it yet. Saving my pennies for a Quadzilla. Will probably go to a 200 degree thermostat when I get that.

Some quick guidance on the Quadzilla. You will see about 204℉ to 210℉ coolant temperature on average. The bonus is the oil temperature measured at the test port on the oil filter head, you should be floating 165℉ to 175℉ in proper timing.

Just a personal note, I'll be heading into getting a tuner for the 3rd Gen trucks and start building tunes for Common Rail engines in the near future. cummins
