Currently I have a mostly stock 2001 Dodge 2500 with an auto tranny (sadly). It has stock injectors (probably original) and a rebuilt hy35 turbo and 5 inch straight pipe exhaust. No stud, no major mods. Have a quadzilla tuner and running a pretty mild tune off it and im trying to go for lower egts.

Eventually id like to make 350ish HP and thats about it. It tows regularly 3k to 14k constantly and and does pretty decent at it... Until egts start getting around 1200F.

Im trying to find a common Proven setup that works for this application. I do plan on putting an exhaust brake on it at some point and would like to try to steer away from having 2 turbo's and keep it simple.

Any suggestions?

  • If you do end up doing a manual swap I would recommend finding and nv5600 or g56 six speed transmission. I’ve got the nv4500 transmission which is great, don’t get me wrong, but the split in ratio bet

  • On a stock 47RE valve body, the 2-3 shift valve is hydraulically locked in the upshifted position when the converter is locked. That signal is removed in the modified valve body, which will allow a 3-

Blasphemy!

Oh boy... Don't get me started!  I really, really wanted to like my 2nd Gen, and I really, really tried! But, alas, I just did not care for that truck.

Back in late 90s I was at car action with the guy I worked for and he got one of these 2nd gens extended cab with cummins 4x4 for a customer he took with him to the action that day. I remember the guy was all excited because they got a really good deal on it. I remember being impressed with it, had 4 in body lift from factory and just looked and sounded cool. I told myself one day I'll have one of them. Then I forgot all about it, over a decade went by then I started looking for a diesel pickup, after I couldn't find any decent 7.3 I came across what I have now. Who would have known.

I consider Un-Americans and "not an American" to not be synonymous. Many Uns are, in fact, Americans.

I get it , it's not so much being born in usa it's the mind set. I've met a lot of people that weren't born in USA that are more American than some Americans that we're born here.

Im glad everyone is patriotic on here, sucks we don't have a lot of that anymore anywhere else

Probably to save me time and preventing myself from foxtroting the valve body, im probably gonna play it safe and look at getting one of @Dynamic built. And swap out the few other listed parts that @LorenS suggested that ain't included on the new valve body. Still working on getting the parts together for the TC override setup, now is a good time to install a real trans temp gauge (more physical than the quadzilla app). In fighting myself on where i'd lime to mount one sense my pillar is full and im not too crazy about mounting it right in front of the main cluster (personal problems).

It was loud, not all that comfortable to drive long distances, and I was ALWAYS fighting EGTs...I'm not sure a 6 speed would have helped much with any of that!  It did have fairly decent power, though. But I much prefer the truck I currently drive in that regard as well. Just my opinion, though...

I never did build a complete transmission for that truck. I never needed to or, obviously, I would have. But I did use it to develop the valve body packages (especially the pressure control and shift calibrations) that I use now. I bet I had the valve body out of that truck 100 times...

I'm just messing with you anyway, I'm sure you know that too.
